Does a TV have to be hard wired to the U-verse box?

I really thought going with AT&T would be better than cable but there are downsides.  The installer put the unsightly box on the wall of my living room connected with a bright green cord to the uverse box.  AND DRILLED A HOLE IN MY WOOD FLOOR rather than running the wire through the wall.  Good grief (this is a brand new home).  Anyway.  I'm stuck with this, I guess.  I want to do a wall mount, but it appears that the TV must be hard wired to the box to work.  I actually had a coax put into the wall with an electrical outlet, assuming this is what could be used, but no.  So I'm I stuck running a wire up my wall after spending money to have the wall mount capability built into the house?  I'm talking about the HDMI cable.  Same with using the "wireless" DVR which also appears to have to be hard wired, so wall mounting in my bedroom seems "out" too.  And, by the way, my phone has to be on the floor next to the Uverse box.  I am unable to get someone to understand my question on any of the help lines.  I feel like I'm living in a nest of wires when I have actually designed my house NOT TO HAVE WIRES ALL OVER THE PLACE?  Is there anything I can do, or do I have to take a loss on this and switch to cable or satellite?  I'll have someone patch the unsightly box the stuck on my BRAND NEW WALL, I guess.  What on earth are they thinking?  I assumed it would be a small plate flush with the wall, but no. IT'S A GIANT BOX STICKING OUT OF THE WALL!!!!  What is the number to call?  Who can help?  Can you tell I'm beyond frustrated?  Thanks so much to anyone who might be able to help.

You are entitled to your feelings, but I do not understand how you arrive there. What you describe are connections that are required to make these things work.

You will not reduce the wires by changing providers. They have the same connections.

Do you have wireless lamps, toaster or anything electrical?

All you can do is tuck them away or hide them.

There is an opportunity with the phone system - since you do not have tel house wiring, you can get wireless phones. Place the base at the white box on the wall & place the other sets around the house. But, they do need to be plugged into the house electric. You just can't get away from those pesky wires.

Get a Panasonic system with voice announcement of who is calling.

@ChrisinNville   The DVR has to be hard wired to the RG, you can have up to 2 wireless receivers also, anymore would have to be wired to the RG. 😉

The "box" with all the blinking green lights is the Residential Gateway (RG) and is hardwired receiving the data source cable from outside the house. The RG then is hardwire connected to the DVR which in turn is connected to your TV via an HDMI cable. If you have other TVs in the house, they could be connected to wireless Set Top Boxes (STB) which receive their signal from a separate router (also hardwire connected to the Residential Gateway) wirelessly. But these wireless STBs connect to the TVs with an HDMI cable as well. Cat5e cable is preferred over coaxial cable.

So your "boxes" are the Residential Gateway, DVR, Set Top Boxes (and a router for up to two wireless set top boxes).
