DVR erases itself with no warning and for no reason
I've just about had it with my UVerse DVR. I had my prior UVerse DVR for a couple of years, and it worked pretty much ok. Then, a couple of times, it spontaneously erased about half its contents. So they sent me a new DVR. In the past 3 months, it's completely erased everything about three times. No reason I can figure out. Electrical glitch, rain in the area, maybe? I just can't figure it out. Does anyone have this same experience? Last night, there were three shows recorded. Tonight, I have 100% of my DVR available. Yippee. This is not working for me. I am not a happy camper.

Check your recording settings for the series and make sure they are set to "save until space needed". If they are set that way, it would seem someone is erasing them? Any box can erase recordings. I know when my daughter was living at home, she would watch a recording and erase it thinking it would still be on the other receivers. Once I explained that once it was erased it was gone for good, my recordings never disappeared again!! Until I figured out what was going on I thought I was crazy!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have redone the scheduling to use "keep until I delete." But there is no reason they should be disappearing. The DVR is almost completely empty, and there is no one else who could be erasing them. It seems like some kind of glitch in the equipment, since it has repeatedly erased everything all at once.

Call tech support and ask for a replacement (800-288-2020). If nothing else you'll eliminate the dvr as a variable in the problem. No sense fooling around with it any more.

Thanks. I have done that. They are sending me a new one. Better luck with this one maybe.

I got my new DVR and installed it. All was well. But I am still having the same problem. My current wild theory is maybe it's related to programming a show through the UVerse website (instead of directly through the DVR). Twice now, I have brought up the Guide on the UVerse website, selected a show and then chose Record. The show appears to be recording (red light on the box is on). But later, the show is not there on the DVR recorded list. However, if I access my DVR recordings through the UVerse web page, the recording IS there in the list of recorded shows. When I originally spoke to a UVerse tech, the same thing happened. She could "see" a recording on my DVR, but my DVR did not have it listed.
I also had the problem with one show that I record regularly every day. For one particular day, the UVerse website listing of my DVR shows the recording, but the actual DVR does not. If I do a reset on the DVR (by holding the power button on the front), then the listing via the UVerse website gets reconciled with what my DVR sees (i.e., the allegedly recorded shows disappear from the website listing). This is all too weird. Anyone understand it?
