HD recordings schedule plays back in SD.
I saw this was posted in the in the direct t.v. forum and should have been here.
This is a recurring problem that I schedule HD recordings in the DVR amd the playback is SD. And before you say it is a mistake on my part it is not I always double check with the app that its scheduled in HD. Another side issue is that om demand on the APP shows more episodes then on the receiver.
Please help the only thing keeping me from switching back to xfinity is the package cost and 1000 gbps interner.
Uverse's interface is worse than comcast back in the early 2000s not to mention has half the premium channel lineup they have. I have to use the HBO and starz app on the firestick to get full access.

Does it happen when the recording is scheduled through the set top box, or just the app. If latter, have you tried completely removing app and starting over?
I’ve never seen the problem you described.
As for comparisons, I’d argue the U-verse DVR is quite good. Mostly reliable for me, but many in Midwest and West would likely disagree. The main gripe for me has always been inability to watch recordings remotely. Xfinity allows this, and unfortunately for us, U-verse is done and dusted as far as any new enhancements are concerned.

Along the lines of what @gr8sho says, I don't care what the app says. I only care what the dvr or other receiver says? And not in the grid either (sometimes you don't always see the red dots - rebooting usually fixes that). What does the Scheduled list say on the dvr or receiver?
The only possible way a recording is in SD is because it's recording the SD channel, i.e., a channel number below 1000.
