How to temporary move my ATT U-verse boxes to a vacation home and back in 3 or 4 months

This is a long question. I want to know exactlly what to do to move my ATT Uverse DVR and one rmote DVR to my vacation home for only three months then move everything back. Sounds easy right but it isn't. Heres the rub. First its a highrise condo. Second I currently have no land line active. Third the Condo provides Comcast cabe tv which is active (any complications there? and I don't plane to use it while using Uverse)

See I told you it was complicated. Next I use comcast internet and wireless WYFY. So just how would all this come together?

I want to walk in my place the second week of January, plug in my ATT Uverse to a phone jack? connect to my wireless (Comcast) connect a HDMI to my tv and start watching. Then in May I want to return home and plug everything back in and sit down and watch TV again at home.

So I called ATT and a guy named Joe said simply Yeah we can do this but I dont think its going to be that wasy. I can just se it, nothing will work and I'll need a technition and be forced to sign a two year contract to do something for just four months.

So anybody want to chime in on this? I would appreciate any help.

@Logo123 Can only bring equipment w/you if moving across town, not across the country.

Would have to set up accounts each place each time there and cancel at each move.  Too much of a hassle for most people.  Just put up w/Comcrap a few months a year and put Uverse on vacation hold at the main homestead. 😉

Thanks Chris, My proble is I have fallen in love with my U-Verse remote and DVR so much better than anything else I have used including Comcraps. Before having ATT I used Consolidated which is a West coast company that took over our old existing service. Your right it would probable be a bigger hastle that it would be worth.

What you're wanting to do is not possible.  At least not the way you want to do it.

Your best option would be to have 2 accounts. When your not at the one of the homes put it on vacation hold.

Indeed. A vacation hold would be the best. The reason being is that when AT&T boxes (like all others) are plugged in to the incoming signal, they "phone home" to make sure that they're physically plugged in to the correct address at the account. Basically, this means that I can't take my U-Verse DVR to my friend's U-Verse house, nor could you take your U-Verse box to anywhere else.

Besides...you can't plug it straight in and expect results...the box has to be provisioned by a technician.

Why the employee suggested this was possible is anyone's guess.

NOW...there is another option. A Slingbox device is fairly easy to plug in between your U-Verse box and your TV. It connects to the internet and for absolutely no monthly fee, "slings" your TV signal to a computer. There is an app for mobile dI suppose using a Chromecast device (no monthly fee), you could send the signal from your computer

Details on "Vacation Hold":

Place your U-verse TV, Voice line(s) and High Speed Internet, if applicable*, on hold for $5 a month each. Vacation Hold can be activated for a minimum period of 2 months and a maximum period of 9 months over a 12 month period. ** To be eligible, your U-verse account must be in good standing and you must have had service for at least 30 days.

That sounds interesting has anyone tried this? Would there be a delay in signal?

RE: That sounds interesting has anyone tried this? Would there be a delay in signal?

You are talking slingbox?

I do not have one. But, here are some things to consider -

There are a lot of them out there, so they must work satisfactorily.

I believe there were a number of posts about deployed military using them on the other side of the world.

Since electronics can get out of service, you would want to have some access to someone that can reset the home base. But, you would probably have some one checking the house.

Why would pure small delay be a problem? You watch recordings with loooong delay. If you mean buffering, that would depend on the quality & speed of the internet connection at both ends. You will need internet at the receiving end. Due to bundling the added TV service may not be that much more.

One slingbox will provide access to one channel at a time. Duplicate TV service will feed multiple TVs.

I prefer wired connection from the computer to the TV. My mac has both HDMI to HDMI and thunderbolt to HDMI. You can also use DVI to HDMI or VGA to component.

It is good to have choices, but may be difficult to uncover all the decision points.
