I am wondering if the wireless receivers for U-verse are pretty dependable.
We are getting U-verse installed soon and would like to go with the wireless receivers, but there is an additional charge, and am wondering if the wireless receivers are close to as fast as the wired receivers.

Of course they are. If they weren't you would not get the proper audio and video. The only consideration to keep in mind for wireless receivers is enough signal strength. That's a function of the distance from the WAP (little box ethernet connected to the gateway that communicates with the wireless receivers) and the kinds of materials they signal need to pass through.
As for the extra charge, what extra charge? It would be the same as for a wired receiver ($10/receiver if I recall). But wireless are more convenient since you could move them anywhere there's a tv (so long as you have the sig strength). If you use one tv much more than another and not at the same time you could let the two tv's share the wireless receiver simply by moving the one box from one tv to the other and save the cost of one box. I actually do that.
