Need another DVR. The one full house DVR is not enough

Hello,

I've got Uverse with a single dvr and 3 wireless receivers.  We are constantly being hit with "All HD viewing options are in use..." and need to find another solution.

Previously with Verizon Fios, we had 3 DVRs and all 3 had their own set of series recordings and recorded shows.  This is where I want to be with U-verse and am willing to pay for it.

However it seems ATT believes one DVR is all anybody will ever need.  Hogwash.  What are my options?

I'm not interested in accessing recorded content from anywhere other than the DVR itself so we can disable and turn off all the Total Home stuff and just deploy DVRs to every TV if possible.  Otherfwise, I need a single DVR, standalone, in one area of the house and then continue to use Total Home in the other areas ( two seperate environments ).

Thanks,

Unfortunately for you, there are no options.  With Uverse, it's ONE DVR to a customer and the DVR is whole house.

Uverse is not always right for everyone.  In my household, it works great.  Obviously for yours, it's not the right 'fit'.

If Verizon is not available to you, you'll need to look at other providers that will give you what you need.  It doesn't look like Uverse will fit those needs.

It is not just the DVR. You only get four streams into the house at the same time. Perhaps only three HD.

So, you need to carefully plan & coordinate your recording & watching live. Try to use second showing afgter midnight when available.

U-verse is not for everyone.

I'm still stuck on he has 3 wireless receivers.  I thought the limit was 2.

...and the folks who mention jumping to FiOS, where AT&T and Verizon share service in only one or two small areas....

It is:

Limit of 2 Wireless Receivers per household. Customer responsible for use of Wireless Receiver. Actual range of wireless signal will vary and may be limited by several factors including, ....blah, blah, blah.

The OP is either mistaken or special.

You guys are right.  One of the 3 dumb receivers is wired.  The wireless ones have quicker response than the wired one!

Appreciate all your responses.  Looks like my only other option is Dish.  Maybe I'll end up with both services simultaneously.  That would be less of a pain than splitting my address up and having 2 seperate accounts with ATT.  I'll bet ATT would find a way to discourage that though.

Whole house DVR is one thing. Whole house DVR that is well thought out and flexible enough to accommodate a variety of use scenarios is something else entirely and currently unavailable ( from ATT ).

Thanks again,

Uverse is not a 'one size fits all'.  For my household, the whole house DVR is all we need.  The 4 stream limit is sufficient but I can see that if you have a full house it could be an issue.

It sounds like you have a plan of action already...but I was wondering what's going on when you get that "all HDs in use" message?

How many TVs are on at the same time?, all HD?  Trying to record how many shows at the same time while you're watching TV?

When we've been in your situation, we've either rescheduled a recording for another time or switched the recording or viewing to a SD channel, but now my service is capable of the full 4 HD inputs and all is well.

I can see if you had 4 or 5 teens, pre-teens or adults in the house, that the 4 HD stream limit could be an issue.

Can a show be watched in SD instead of HD?  Probably.

Can a program be recorded at a later time to allow an HD stream for use by others?  Sure.

But people don't want to change their viewing habits and they want what they want when they want it.

We had one guy who posted that he had 8 or 10 TVs in his house, all being used by family with some degree of regularity.  While it may sound ree-donkulous, it happens.
