Need to be hardwired
So we recently cancelled our Uverse service as it was too much money for not a lot of options. We did however retain the internet service. They told me I need to return the receivers which I'm fine with however my husband has been hardwired to a receiver that gets wifi access. If I return the receiver, he's just going off of wifi which is not conducive to gaming. I asked the att rep if I could keep a receiver and just pay the monthly fee as usual since the uverse is turned off anyways and they said no. Looking for ideas or solutions on this other than running a line through my whole house from the bedroom to his game room.

im afraid you have no choice, how is the receiver connected by coax or Ethernet cable? you can always go ethernet over power that uses your homes electrical wires to provide internet to any wall plug you choose.

It's an ethernet cable. Never heard of the ethernet over power.

The ethernet is connected in the bedroom so with the EOP wouldn't I still need to run a cord through the house?

Or get a 3rd party extender.

Yes, like an Eero or Orbi to create a mesh network, or just go with a ATT extender or something similar.

A WiFi extender doesn’t help if you need to be hard wired unless you can find one that has Ethernet too. The extender I have is WiFi only. I use power line adapters to connect a Directv DVR to my home network and internet and it works quite well.

Here to help with your connection concerns, @Kheyoh!
Just as @sandblaster mentioned, depending on how they are choosing to game Console/PC (may need a Wi-Fi adapter if desktop) you can test the strength of the Wi-Fi network using our Smart Home Manager app. Just view the steps under the section See if Wi-Fi extenders will help and follow the steps.
If it deems you will need one, or you'd like to order one, you can order through the app or you can reach back out to us to order an extender for you.
Let us know how the test goes with the app!

@Kheyoh
I wouldn’t touch anything att offered in this space with a 100’ pole, nor would I attempt to game off of WiFi on any gateway BGW210 or older.
Personally I too prefer a hardwired Ethernet connection for gaming. If I were stuck not being able to this, I’d give something like a high end Orbi with a dedicated wireless backhaul that would provide Ethernet drops off of a satellite device.
