New DVR noise

Hi,
my DVR stopped working. I had the feeling that an automatic firmware update messed up my unit. I called the support an I received a "new" one. I think it is used however what really bothers me is that this unit is bulkier and noiser. I used to have the PACE version and I received the cisco one. The PACE DVR didn't make any noise. Instead the CISCO makes continuously a fan-like noise which it is not loud but very annoying. Is it normal ? or i received a defective unit ?
BTW, Is there any way to recover (maybe through the USB port) my previous recordings ?

Thanks

The recording are on the hard drive in the dvr.  Change dvr's and you lose the recordings.  That usb port is not used.

You could just keep asking for replacements I suppose until you get a quieter one.

Note, it helps when you post here to indicate the actual model numbers of the devices you are referencing here, not just their makes.  That info should be shown on the devices someplace, usually on the front but maybe the back.
