Only 2 bars on wireless receiver and seeking input on how to get a better connection

Hello, I have a wireless receiver (Cisco ISB7005) which is quite far from the access point (VAP2005) and at best it gets two bars reception.  I have moved the access point as close to the receiver as I can and am seeking ways to get a better connection sans having the tech come out and move the gateway to a new room.  The help desk told me that I should get a Wi Fi extender and connect the access point to that.  I tried that and could not get it to work and reviewing this forum its my understanding the AP has to be hardwired into the gateway.  Thank you

The VAP does need to be hardwired to the gateway, but if you had an ethernet switch in a location closer to your wireless receiver, you could relocate the VAP there.  Is getting a longer ethernet cable not practical for your situation?

I have moved the access point as close to the receiver as I can...

Would a longer ethernet cable give you more freedom to experiment?  If so replace the shorter ethernet cable from the gateway to the WAP with the longer one and experiment some more.

As you discovered, yes, the WAP must be connected to the gateway.
