Recording Formula-1 on Uverse will again it seems be a difficult task

The first televised event (practice 2) is on 3/12, two weeks away.  You can search and find it, but when you press record it says "Due to last minute scheduling changes this progam must be recorded manually".   First I'm not sure what is so last minute about two weeks in the future, but even if it were to move that is exactly why you do NOT want to manually record at a particular date, time, and channel.   This was a constant headache last year with the schedule showing up wrong, with the date/time shown in the guide being different than the detail for the show, lots of "manual recording".

Oh how I wish for DirecTV and Tivo with "wish lists".  I hate Uverse-TV but I don't have a choice in my present home.   The UI is horrid, the latency is terrible (3 or 4 seconds response at times), the performance is bad (tonight the PBS NewsHour cut out 3 or 4 times, then came back with stuttering audio so I had to stop, backup and play again to fix it, so it wasn't the content but the delivery), and it speriously jumps to "on-demand".

I have manually recorded shows like that sometimes and they have always been correct. About the box being slow, I recommend sending a PM to @ATTU-verseCare and they may send a newer, faster one

@jrg167 It's not in the Guide yet.  I'm looking at Form1 website and prctice 2 should be at 12:30am EDT March 13.  The Guide only goes to 3/12 9pm here in metro Detroit on 1640 NBCSN HD.

Sometimes Search will return something past the Guide dates as in this case.  Should show up in the Guide tomorrow though. 😉

Edit:  For service problems, Click the ATT Uverse Care link in my signature, send the PM, explain your service problems situation.

Include your account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply.

mibrnsurg: yes what you describe is called a BUG.  i.e. something shows up in search but can not be recorded normally as its not in the guide yet. its just bad sw.  The fact that you have an explaination for it doesn't make it any less annoying or any less something that should have been fixed years ago (and yes it has been around for years).

Thanks, perhpas I'll give that a shot, though its only 18 months old.  I suspect the latency issue is inherent in the design where most things happen in the server, not in the box.

No, I've had programs do that when they already were in the Guide.  After I got that manual warning, went to the Guide, found them and clicked Record and they did.  Part of the reason I'm not fond of Searching. 😉

Of course eventually the content that was only seen in searches comes into the guide.  That was never in doubt, so get off your high-smiley-horse.  That in no way diminishes the fact that the guide content and the search content is ALWAYS out of sync for some content.  Its a design flaw that has been around for a long time  ATT obviously knows about it, they just don't care.

And note "there they are".  NBCSN only broadcasts one practice session (#2) and it is 4:30pm-6:00pm Melborune time, which will be 10:30pm-12:00 midnight Pacific time.  But the guide shows 2 shows, one 9:30pm-10:30pm followed by a second one at 10:30pm-12:00midnight.  That might be NBC's screwup, but I'm hesitant to give ATT the benefit of the doubt given thier overall performance.  It could be a bug from either of them around the end of Daylight Savings time, but my bet is on ATT.

If you have any silver Motorola VIP-series (1200, 1215, 1225) boxes, please note that those are old. The 1200s can be exchanged for newer wireless or wired STBs. The 1215 and 1225 boxes are DVRs. If you exchange those, you'll lose recordings. What you can do is buy a slingbox and connect the Slingbox exclusively to the 12xx DVR and use a wireless on the TV. Make sure the DVR is away from the TV or you may get funkiness when you change channels via the remote.

If they want to give you a $49 upgrade fee, you can pay OR politely let them know that you shouldn't have to pay extra to swap out old equipment. AT&T pushed out an update which essentially "broke" the silver Motorola boxes.

I think the "black" boxes are NOT made by Motorola and should be ok.

I have also seen stuff that shows up in the search function that can't be recorded. I'll just go one or two airings earlier (if it's something that airs a lot, such as a movie on Showtime) and record that one. -- I push a lot of stuff to record as far in the future as possible so that the DVR isn't filled up quickly

But I do agree that if it can't be recorded, it shouldn't show up in the guide or search or anything such as that.
