Return to Live after pausing live show?

My new S30-S1A remote, like all such, lets me pause a live show. This works fine, but how can I get back to "true" live without FF? We have Comcast service in another housel, and its remote can pause live too, but its remote has a "live" button that when pressed immediately puts it back to where the show currently is. Or optionally, I can FF to live, too. If the U-Verse remote has been paused a very long time, it takes what can seem like forever even with high speed FF to get back to live. The Exit to TV button does NOT return to live and I can't find anything on it that does this.

Am I doing something wrong with the S30 remote? Does it even have a function that does this?

TIA

@eppack -Yeah, that sounds familiar. U-verse does not have that feature.

You can "return to live" in two clicks with chan up/down (or down/up). Unfortunately, you will erase the buffer, blocking any additional rewind for that slice of time.

But, you have to move your finger from up/down. You can do it with the last button - two clicks on the last button takes you to another chan & back to a clear buffer.

Use the same technique if you want to record a segment of a program that is coming up without having to play the previous portion on replay. Of course, you have to plan that the segment is coming up. It does not work, once the segment has already played.

Another point - you are pausing live - Note that is very fragile. If it goes away, it is gone. If you want to be sure to cature the segment while you are paused, record it instead of pausing it. You can do the chan up/down first to start the recording at that point.

After watching the recording you can use the last button to return to live. Of course, youu have to erase it a some point (or allow it to auto erase when space is needed).

Also, you need to use that technique if you are changing viewing boxes.

Dang. All I ever do in this regard is pause live if I want hubs to see something if he happens not to be around at the moment, or if I have to step away from it for a while. Most of the time I'm back relatively soon, but distractions abound, and sometimes it's more than just a few minutes or so. I really don't want to set it to record for these times, but I guess that's an option too if I KNOW I need to be away, but that seems a bit much to do for something simple like this. I don't care about the buffer in this case, generally speaking. If I did, then I WOULD record instead of pause, I guess, and I've done that on the Comcast system, again, when I KNOW I'm stepping away indefinitely..

I'll try some of the suggestions you have mentioned, thanks! But hmm, if we had a different remote, do they possibly have such a live button? If so, do you think that would do what I want or is that a function of U-Verse regardless of remote being used?

Thanks!

I had not throught of someone wanting to go back to live tv.  Have you tried the exit to tv button.  You should be able to return to live tv.  Please post if that works.

@eppack - Everybody thinks it is the remote that controls the response because that is what they operate. But, the remote operates the box & the box needs the software to respond to the IR trigger. Both are needed to support a feature.

I always get a carried away with possibilities.

The simple answer to your request for a break a pause with a "return to LIve" button is - hit the LAST button twice.

Exit to TV didn't work for me, Dinglesby. I had tried it somewhile back and I thought it just started playing again from the pause position. However just now I tried it again and it did nothing at all.

Pausing live is handy when you need a potty break, or go to the kitchen for a snack, and don't want to miss something you are viewing. Lots of good reasons. But if you decided you did not want to watch it after all (it happens 🙂 and it was paused for a LONG time, you may want to get back to the "current" live immediately.

But thanks, AViewer, the last-last did exactly what I wanted, and I'm a happy camper now 🙂

I came to the same conclusion after thinking about it (note to self: don't post a reply immediately 🙂

But as noted in another reply, your Last-Last suggestion does exactly what I wanted, Thanks!
