S30 Remote will not turn Samsung TV On

I have a Samsung TV model LN32D430G3D and the AT&T U-Verse S30 remote. The remote works for volume, turning the TV off , but will not turn it ON. The remote that came with the TV works just fine. I have tried re-programming the S30 remote using all different methods and codes and still cannot make it turn the TV on. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

I find it strange that if the S30 can turn the tv off it can't turn it on.  Usually the tv IR code is the same and acts like a toggle.  It's certainly the same for the s30.  So if samsung decided for some obscure reason to use different codes for off and on your only solution is to continue using the tv's remote to turn it on.   Alternatively search for an att compatible remote where you can program these things.  Maybe a Harmony.

Yes I thought so too. I've tried all I can think of but it just won't turn
on using that S30 remote. Thanks for the reply and trying to help!

I ran into the same problem with my Samsung TV while the installer was here the first day of service. For some reason this was happening when the DVR receiver was connected via HDMI cables. We switched out to different HDMI cables and it was still happening.

When the installer connected my Samsung TV via component cables the problem went away and I was able to both turn on and off my Samsung TV with no problems.

Here is a link to the type of component cable that came with my Samsung TV that solved my problem......

Hope this helps you out and solves your problem as it did for me.

I have the same issue with a SAMSUNG TV....did the component cables work for you?

I did a little research on this and I think I understand the problem here.  First you don't have to purchase any particular brand of component cables.  They should all work.  Pick up the cheapest component cables you can find, probably at your nearest drug store.  But...

Second you should be able to use your hdmi cable instead of the component cable.  Who ever heard of a modern HD tv with hdmi inputs that can't use its own hdmi inputs on any device that has hdmi output?  The remote doesn't know nor care how the tv is connected to the dvr/receiver.  So the problem lies with the tv.

And the leads to what I think is the problem. On some samsung models, including the one mentioned in this thread, at least one (don't know if it's all) hdmi inputs supports CEC (consumer electronics control).  Hopefully only one of the hdmi inputs supports this which leads to the suggestion to simply try a different hdmi input on the tv.  The second suggestion, looking at a samsung manual is to look for "Anynet+" or "HDMI-CEC" in the samsung user manual and turn it off.    The fact that a component connection will work while the hdmi doesn't is a clue that CEC is the source of this problem.

Looking at the samsung site I found this page.  Apparently there's and "External Device Manager" settings menu to allow you to enable/disable this feature.  I think if you can turn the CEC off the att remote to control on/off will behave as expected.  And as I said, if not all the hdmi inputs support CEC then using one of those hdmi input ports should work too.

At the very least you should research this HDMI CEC feature for yourself.

Yes, the component cables solved the problem. However, in November I purchased a new TV which did not have component outlets and was only possible of hooking up via HDMI. When the AT&T box (DVR) was hooked up via HDMI to my new TV I ran into the same problem.
The only way that solved it with being hooked up with HDMI cables was if each and every time I wanted to turn on to watch u-verse I had to remove the power cord first for about 10 to 15 seconds from the back of the u-verse DVR box. (I did this for over two months). This would reboot and load u-verse for me. This was occurring with two different Samsung TV's that I had. By chance is your TV a Samsung?
When I moved the first TV that was having the problem and required component cables into another room with just a regular HD u-verse box I hooked it up via HDMI cables and had no problems. So it was clearly a problem with the AT&T DVR box and not the TV's.
I would suggest that you attempt to switch out your AT&T box with a different box to see if this solves your problem. I must warn you however that I got no help in solving my problems from AT&T (they refused to send me a different u-verse DVR box). In January once my contact was over I ended up switching providers.
Hope this input helps you out. Good luck.

Good Morning ChasJonk!

Thank you for taking time to respond! Yes I have a Samsung TV, older model, which does have component connections available. I will buy some new cables. It is very strange that the cables connecting the cable box to the tv would affect the remote control operation! I had Dish prior to ATT with no problems with the existing Samsung TV…Thanks again for your response!

I discovered a work around for the s30 inability to turn on Samsung TVs. Program the remote to a code that will control volume and turn the tv off. With the remote pointed toward the tv hit the volume button, then hit the power button, the Samsung tv will turn on.

I also am having the same issue. ATT was at my house yesterday doing some work and gave me a new S30-S1B remote to replace my old S10-S4. The volume workaround worked with the new S30-S1B but I swapped this remote with one of my older S10-S4 remotes which works perfectly with my Samsung TV.

It seems to me that ATT needs to come up with a code that works with Samsung TVs and their S30-S1B remote.

Just got Uverse yesterday. 5 boxes. Both LG & Samsung can control all soundbars, TVs, but will NOT turn Samsun ON... very frustrating for a new service to have to use factory Samsung remote.

I’ve been screwing with this for weeks now. I’ll finally get the Samsung tv to come on, through whatever button, power plug, reboot, Yada yada. Now when I finally get the damm thing on the volume button is reversed. Up is down, and down is up??? Thought at first it was my Rocky stick in the HDMI 2 port, but that fix was short lived as well. Three other Samsung’s in the house work fine. And my the way, so did the tv in question, for over a year or two. Seems like at t did some kind of update that has caused the S10-S1B to have this issue. Does anyone know what the steps are to “set the volume code” as stated on previous post. Thanks.

Let's see if we can get your remote working properly, @Badbob44.

Here is more information on how to program your remote. There is a drop down that you can choose the model of remote you have and then you can access our Remote Code Lookup Tool for the volume code you are looking for.

Let us know if this helps.
