Saving recorded programs.

If I have to replace a uverse dvr with a new one, can I save the recordings from the old one to the new one?

I guess this answers my question, but I don't think it is a satisfactory answer. If I spend months selecting and recording programs it is unacceptable to me that ATT cannot save those programs to a new device if the old hardware is faulty. I regret my decision to switch from cable to Uverse. I am not getting the internet speeds promised (especially WiFi), the WiFi connection is spotty at best with less range than my cable WiFI, and my DVR randomly resets itself while I'm watching. I have called about the WiFi problems multiple times and was sent a new modem to self-install. That didn't fix the problems. The DVR was resetting itself while the install technician was present, but he just said, "It must be rebooting" and ignored it. This is a problem when you are watching a movie or sporting event and have to miss a good 5 minutes of content. If it needs to be reset, can't I at least choose when it happens? I really want to switch back to cable, but it is such a hassle to change the WiFi password on all your smart devices, so I am trying to live with what I have. I just wish Uverse would work out the bugs or at least be more responsive with customer service.

The hard drive in your dvr contains the recordings.  That's the only places they are stored.   Change dvr's you loose the recordings.  Period.  There is no backup facility available or allowed (I think  you can thank the entertainment industry for that one).

Wifi?  The range is not that good from the gateways.  Use a wifl signal extender.

Poor internet speed?  What speed tier did you sign up for?

Is it the dvr that's rebooting or is it the gateway (router/modem)?  If you replaced these and the problem continues the odds of it being the equipment that's at fault go way down.  Do you have the stuff plugged into power strips or the wall?  If power strips try the wall or at least another power strip.  It could be faulty.

I signed up for 1 gb. I tested before replying I am getting 145 mb download and 120 mb upload wireless.

I do use extenders. I have a Peloton stationary bike not 20 feet from an extender and it says connected, no internet.

You’ll never get 1 gb wirelessly. 450 MB’s is the highest I’ve ever read. Extenders typically reduce your WiFi. You want an acess point instead. Try doing a whole system reboot. Unplug all your equipment including the gateway. Plug your gateway in and let it restart  Then plug in your dvr and let it restart. Then stb’s if you have any. If that doesn’t fix the dvr problem call for a tech visit again. How is all your equipment connected? Any switches involved? You can change your network name and password in the att gateway or a cable router to match your devices. That way you don’t change in each device.
