The pain of converting to Fiber
This now goes back months. Started last spring when AT&T notified people in our HOA that they were installing fiber. Great. Progress. Soon after the paint patrol showed up spray painting streets, sidewalks, lawns, plants identifying services. Great safety. Month goes by. No digging. The paint patrol returns. Resprays everything again. And again and again. 4 times. The place still looks like a NY Subway car. Finally the digging began. A sub contractor showed up and set about to work. But the issues soon started. Construction in our city of Sandy Springs GA must end by 7:30 pm. But they were working with loud equipment past 9:30 pm. To clean up each night they air blasted the days diggings into peoples yards right up to the front porches. We caught them illegally dumping their material in a small forest in our HOA. We had to go the city and AT&T to get corrective action taken. They left yards a mess. We were told they would return in 3 weeks to repair sod. No one ever returned and we will all be doing major yard repairs come spring. Months went by. We checked to see when we could get some payback for the pain. Finally after Christmas the website said it was available for our area. As the HOA president I decided to be the guinea pig. I called and subscribed to Fiber last week. Took almost 45 minutes to arrange. Booked a service call for today between 1 and 3. Took time off work to be here. Last night around 5 got a call saying that they couldn't do the service call. There was a "line issue". I said I needed a better explanation than that. The sales people transferred me to the service people. They told me the order had only been place that afternoon by the sales people and they couldn't come out. I'll save the long version of the story but it took 4 hours, 5 phone calls being disconnected twice to finally figure out that I was involved in a dispute between two departments. Made it clear that it wasn't my issue and that I expected to have my service call since I had already booked time off work. Finally around 10pm everything was resolved for our call between 1 and 3. 3:30 today comes and no one has showed up. I start another 2 hours on the phone getting tossed between sales and service. A tech phones me on my cell phone at the same time. He has just been given our service call and is over an hour away. He also thinks he is coming to install a dvr. On the phone with them and finally have to settle for an appointment a week from Saturday. Sorry, got interrupted there. Tech just showed up at the door 30 minutes after I rescheduled for next Saturday. Told him I was leaving in 30 minutes and I had no idea why they had still sent them. SO, do you think I will be recommending AT&T Fiber to my HOA community?
