I was debating replying to your post & decided not to. But, your next post changed my mind.
It is difficult to be "sure" on making recommendations here. Especially with HDMI because it is a two way interface & it is not necessarily one device or the other is bad. They just do not work together.
There are a couple of threads about the 2250 having bad HDMI. I believe I suggested a few ways to possibly improve the function, but the sure way is to eliminate it and replace it with component. As MT suggested.
In those threads, the OP was absolutely sure the fault is the 2250 software & went through many instances before finding one that worked & said he was in contact with mgmt to get it fixed. But, we have not yet seen closure.
The most likely element of an HDMI problem is a black screen. Is that what you see? Or, you see that the green light on the box will not come on? Or not go off, then on? These would not be an HDMI problem.
A work around that may mitigate the problem for either case is placing the DVR on the least used TV in the house - I read your post to say that you usually leave it on & it times out. If you swap with another STB, that will not happen. It will be the other STB that times out.
Ever since the introduction of whole house DVR I have had the DVR on the least used TV on the theory that it has enough work to do & does not need extra viewing. I have a 2250 on HDMI, that I have no problem the few times that I use it.
It is, also, prefered to connect the DVR to the RG via cat5. If the two (cat5 & least used TV) conflict, choose the one that works best.
Do you see how complicated this can be? We can only make suggestions to try. It is not as easy as being there to try it. We can only say these things can happen. When trouble shooting it is better to try all possibilities than to leave out the one that is the problem. You will have to apply them to find out. Sometimes it takes some back & forth discssion.
