What happens to DVR schedule when closing account and creating new ?
So it seems the way to get a decent price now is to cancel my account and create a new one under my wife's name.
If I do this, I understand a new DVR must be installed and the original sent back, and we'll lose the recordings on the original.
What about the scheduled recordings though ? We have some 50 or so shows scheduled to record whenever new releases come out.. I'd love to not have to re-enter all that again.. Is that saved in some way that the new DVR could use it ? Or is there any way to backup/restore that to the new account ?
Also, would any other equipment have to be messed with (router or anything?) or just the DVR ?
Thanks!

Sorry but they will no longer be accessible to a new account since you'll be returning all equipment when you close your account. Your wife will be getting new equipment with a new account.
THOSE scheduled programs are associated with THAT DVR which is assigned to THAT name & address.
As Walter Cronkite would say "...and that's the way it is."
Good luck with cancelling under one name and reopening in another. Does your spouse have a different last name than you? If you are successful, let us know.

As they say, "your mileage may vary" but if you call the retentions department during regular business hours and politely remind them of your other options, they may cut you a deal. I've been able to sign many one-year contracts at cut-rates. True, they're not as good as "new customer offers" but if I can save about $30 per month on TV and an additional rate on internet, it all adds up.

Thanks for the feedback (I have gone this route of course, couple times, but the deals are horrible this year).
But doesn't address my question about when I get a new DVR and new account, if my scheduled recordings will propagate to it, or if there's some way to backup/restore.
Thanks.

I don't know if this is true with U-Verse, but if you move within the same city, most cable providers allow you to take your stuff. Obviously, with satellite, city to city doesn't matter. I think for a while, the satellite equipment was actually owned by the customer. Now, IDK.
