What is Happening to My Receiver? Rebooting? Disaster Recovery?
For the past 2 days my att uverse receiver, the big silver kind not the wireless smaller black box, has been doing some strange things. i was watching tv one night and i fell asleep and when i woke up the tv displayed a red X. So i turned it off or unplugged it cant remember which, then when it came back on it seemed to be loading something or updating. it had a gear symbol then there was a progress bar that was loading and eventually it went back to the regular tv, except all my recordings were gone... Then today, i had my receiver off and i had to turn the power strip off that its hooked up to because i was moving thigns in my room then when i plugged it back in it started doing the same thing again, the gear symbols and the loading bar etc etc. What is this??

An X showing up usually means the DVR is kaput somewhere. If these reboots w/the gear and progress bar last a long time, it's doing a disaster recovery and that's not good
As you've seen it erases all your recordings, I'd contact ATT Uverse Care here:
https://forums.att.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage/tab/compose/note-to-user-id/2365485
Send them a private message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your X/rebooting Uverse service problems. They are available M-F 8am-11pm Eastern time, response may take up to 2 business days.
This is not the regular CS/TS people, but the social media Community Specialists that know the people to contact to get things done. I personally know as they've helped me on a DVR swap.
Include your account#, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.
Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. Good luck 😉

This just happened to us. Your receiver is dead and if you have any recordings on it, they are gone. I've just complained to ATT about the same problem, that is, replacing receivers and not being able to salvage all of our lost recordings. If more people complain and threaten to leave ATT, perhaps they'll figure out a way to transfer the data from the hard drive in the old damaged box to a new one.
