When powering down your TV, the Uverse remote has to do TWO jobs...turn off the receiver and turn off the TV.  If you press the Power button and then move the remote too fast, it does not have a chance to complete both tasks.

When you press the Power button continue to hold the remote in front of the TV for around 3 seconds.

That's right, Uverse set-top boxes have never had a sleep mode like other streaming boxes.  The screensaver is always present in the power off position.

@gr8sho  But if you give the remote time to do its job (turn off receiver AND TV) it will go to a blank screen and won't go to Press OK to Watch TV.

I interpreted the question to mean where the TV is on and the Uverse box is off.  This is a viable scenario for many of us where we have Apple TV and Fire TV and Roku connected to our TV and are switching inputs.  The Uverse box will always be transmitting an image even with the box is on the off position.  If I misunderstood or misinterpreted the OP, so be it.

Despite the massive numbers of subscribers leaving Uverse, it appears a there are still a large number of new customers onboarding .  And while I appreciate many of the questions I see attempting to interoperate the ancient Uverse hardware with newer TVs and receivers and soundbars and the like.  Uverse TV is what it is, hasn't changed, and isn't going to change.

....and that's what I have in common with Uverse!  😁
