WHY DOES MY DVR BOX NOT ALWAYS RESPONDING TO REMOTE CONTROL

For the past 8-10 mos. my DVR set top box doesn't always respond to my AT&T silver remote control when I press either the fast forward, stop or play buttons. I have rotated the batteries, as well as having changed them numerous times without success. I have 2 set top boxes for my 2 tv's, but only 1 of the boxes is a DVR.  I am inclined to think that it's a problem with the DVR because I have Bose speakers, which can't be controlled by the AT&T remote; but the Bose remote will control the AT&T DVR set top box. However, I have the same problem with the Bose remote control. Additionally, this only happens on the DVR set top box; not the other set top box on the tv in my basement. I should also note that I have rebooted the DVR box without any success.

This sounds like a good candidate for taping over the IR sensor with this tape. You may be amazed - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-2-in-x-150-ft-Vinyl-Electrical-Bundling-Tape-Silver-30002664/202741845#specifications

If it's an LCD (LED) TV check for these settings on your advanced settings on the menu: Dynamic Contrast, Auto or Ambient Brightness, Energy/Power Saver, Intelligent Sensor or Auto Iris.

If you have any of them or similar ones try turning them 'off' one by one until you find the culprit, then turn the non-offending ones back on to double check. All of these can cause Uverse remote problems w/an LCD (LED).

If it's a plasma, make sure the DVR/STB is in front and the face pointing the same direction as the TV, so it gets no IR from the front of the screen. Good luck 😉
