Apple TV Browsing Experience - Questions or Requests
Hi all,
Really new to the DirecTV Stream and I'm using it on our Apple TV. The quality is good and the responsiveness is great.
I have some useability issues though and wanted to ask the group here:
1) Whenever I go to the search feature in the directv guide, if I "enter" text by using Siri to type it out for me, it won't let me select anything. If I type it out manually by selecting the letters then it works just fine. Is this just a me thing?
2) Is it possible to enter channel numbers or, even better, just say into siri what channel I want to jump to? If it's not possible (and won't be possible) to do the voice jump (e.g. "ESPN") would it be possible to get a shortcut in the guide somewhere that lets me type in channel numbers? Obv the apple remote doesn't have any numbers so i'd need a way to "type" them in.
3) Is there any way to make it harder to accidentally exit the app? I find I'm jumping out of the app a lot on accident trying to get between guide and video or other selections.
4) Finally the apple remote on the phone has a channel up/down button but nothing happens on directv app when I push these. Is that expected?
Sorry for blasting these out just a few quick observations with 24hrs of experience or so.
Cheers.

It does allow voice commands to change channels, but not by numbers as far as I can tell. If you say “Tune to CNN” it will work but it doesn’t work for all channels.

The best option here (from my perspective) is to get an Osprey box ($49 refurbished) from DIRECTV. I used to be an AppleTV user but gave up because of the remote. With an Osprey remote you can enter channel numbers, has a backlight, you have a "guide', "recordings list", "home" buttons, etc. and it's integrated w Google voice ("tune to ESPN" or "ESPN" works)

Can anyone suggest a remote that talks to Apple TV but provides more functionality on Direct Tv stream than the usual Apple remote? Like channel number entry?

Sorry, no. The DirecTV App on Apple TV, like other Apple TV Apps, is limited by the Apple TV remote's features.
