DirecTV did not pull your CBS channel. The channel owner, Tegna did. If you want to complain to someone, complain to Tegna and what they are wanting to charge DirecTV to carry their channels. DirecTV went to Tegna with an idea to avoid this from happening. They offered to let Tegna be an a-la-carte channel and Tegna could charge consumers whatever they wanted to, but of course, Tegna said no to that.

@Danutek
Your local CBS affiliate station is owned by Tegna.
Carriage agreement came up.
Tegna pulled the feed as is their right as part of the negotiations.
DirecTV's stance is Tegna is demanding too high an increase.
Remember any increase to DirecTV means that much more on our bills.
There is no obligation to provide you CBS or paramount plus.
DirecTV as a courtesy is offering a one-time $10 credit to affected customers.
Log into your account online or call DirecTV to redeem that credit.
Whether you use the credit towards paramount plus, a regular antenna, is up to you.

I'm complaining to Direct TV because it is their decision to not work with Tegna. I am forced to use Direct TV because I'm with Frontier. I am forced to go to Paramount Plus and pay their monthly fee and upgrade just to watch specific CBS shows when I already pay Direct TV and Frontier. A $10 credit means nothing for the inconvenience. It's all a racket and its a very greedy way to punish consumers for just wanting to watch television.

@Danutek Actually no, it was not their decision to not work with Tegna. They tried. They offered an alternative solution and Tegna said no and walked away. And DirecTV didnt drop the channel, Tegna pulled it. Either way, we as consumers are going to get screwed. Just like after this crap with Nextstar was settled, we ended up paying more. And eventually the same thing is going to happen again when this crap with Tegna gets settled. These companies (Tegna, Nextstar, etc) keep asking for RIDICULOUS fees from DirecTV, Charter, etc. A simple Google search will tell you exactly what Tegna is asking for and Wht DirecTV is balking at it.

They are working with Tegna by negotiating. The alternative would be accept the higher rates and increase our bills that much more. You may be fine with the increase but many of us other customers are not.
Your are not "forced" to use DirecTV. You use whatever TV option (pay TV or regular antenna), or no TV provider at all, that you choose.
Frontier and DirecTV are different providers. Years ago Frontier was a bundle partner, where you could get an extra intro discount for their internet, but that is long gone. In the end, whatever internet provider you have doesn't matter as it is separate from DirecTV.
A single channel cost per day is very small so a $10 credit is more than enough. To demand otherwise is being greedy itself.
You can thank Tegna for using you as a negotiating tool to raise rates further just like they did 3 years ago.
The channels will eventually be back. Hopefully without affecting the next annual price adjustment too much (as ALL prior negotiations are taken into account, not just Tegna). You can watch something else in the meantime. If you are so desperate for a single local channel that you cannot live without than you have your options. But neither DirecTV nor Tegna is punishing you. It is simple carriage negotiations as with any other channel. The only punishing is that what you are doing to yourself.

I gather then that as a consumer, I will need to drop Direct TV and therefore drop Frontier and go to YOUTUBE or some other streaming service. It's not worth it anymore to deal with these companies. It's pointless to fight TEGNA also - You are correct in that we as consumers are and will be screwed and will continue to be screwed as the media companies will control everything - greedy monsters that they are! Thanks for the information.

@Danutek You don't think YouTube TV, Hulu, etc, etc etc has these issues also? Because they do.

I get it - it's all about Tegna and its power and greed as a powerful media company! It's a sad day for the lone, small time consumer who just wants to watch "TV"! Makes we want to think about throwing out my TV and computer and live only in my small world community dependent upon person to person communication.

DirecTV wants to keep operating costs low to provide a reasonable cost to customers while maintaining an acceptable profit. Tegna wants to make as much as they can selling their permission to TV providers. Both function in their own interest. As a DirecTV or DIRECTV STREAM customer, the TV provider's side works better for us than the channel owner.
Where do you think Frontier comes into this? That is your internet provider which has nothing to do with your satellite TV. They are separate companies. You could change one of them without affecting the other. DirecTV doesn't care what internet you have. Your internet is only used for optional On Demand features. It is only suggested to not have a satellite internet provider connected as On Demand would eat through your data allowance. But whether you have Frontier, AT&T, Verizon, CenturyLink, Mediacom, TDS, etc. makes no difference. Use whatever internet in your area that you want.
Historically though the negotiations are annoying, Tegna hasn't been too bad. Others like Nexstar and Mission have been the worst. And then of course on the national channels Viacom (the "babysitter" as owns the Nickelodeon channels) has their own history with upsetting customers.
No matter what TV provider you go with they all deal with these negotiations. We prefer they happen behind the curtain so we are unaffected, but sometimes a business has to play hardball. They are not providing these services out of the goodness of their hearts but are in business to make money. That is their purpose.
In the end, TV is entertainment. Sure some nice information comes through it, but in the end it is not a necessity of life. Don't make your life dependent on any specific channel or even TV in general. So for now just watch one of the many other channels you are subscribed to. Tegna's channels will be back eventually.
And if you haven't already done so, try using a regular antenna on your TV. See about picking up the free broadcast of your locals. Not only does this protect you against negotiations, but sometimes you pull in channels DirecTV doesn't have like sub-channels or those from a neighboring viewing market they aren't allowed to provide you based on your address. Just a way to have some more options.
But if you only have pay TV for a single local, then perhaps getting rid of TV all together would be the way to go. That is a lot of equipment and a monthly bill just to revolve around a single channel.

Right now I am so disgusted that I can’t get a local channel, and the solution is pay more money to a streaming company like Paramount. I have an aunt who is bedridden and unable to watch her soap operas on CBS, which is something that she hasn’t been able to do. Another greedy corporation that doesn’t care about the everyday person.

Well your local channel has the right to be greedy. They are withholding the feed to raise the rate they receive. Naturally if that cost goes up then that adds to our bill when time for the annual price adjustment. Just the nature of economics unfortunately as the purpose of a business is to make money. They only "care" as much as they must regrading customers.
You could try a regular antenna to get the free broadcast and perhaps any sub-channels in the area that DirecTV doesn't carry. An option as a backup during these carriage negotiations.

In case anyone is confused, neither DirecTV or Frontier requires the other. They are different companies and services. You can have one without the other.

I've just read a lot of these back and forth comments and I agree with the customers, as I am one too, of course and very frustrated with this whole "negotiation" situation. This is ridiculous, yall need to come to an agreement already before yall start loosing a whole lot of customers. Some of us that live in rural areas, like my family, only have one news channel and it just happens to be CBS. So yea, it kinda is life dependent for us but thats fine, if yall don't want our money, we'll go to streaming services and just cancel you all together. At least they'll keep working.

This whole thread so far is all customers. And regardless of our individual views on the situation, I agree we are all frustrated.
My household isn't reliant on news channels (never mind one in particular), TV is entertainment for us. Though rural, we get decent reception for the main locals so if something peaks our interest we will just switch input to antenna as needed. Internet still has a ways to go before streaming could be relied on (plus when internet is out TV works or vice versa, but if both are out than there is a bigger problem).
It is ridiculous to claim DirecTV doesn't want your money. Of course they do, they are a business. The issue is Tegna wants even more money, which is the cause of most of these negotiation disputes. The higher Tegna gets to charge the more that adds to our bill. I do not want to shell out even more money for locals so I would prefer DirecTV hold out to minimize that as much as possible.
Too bad those who cannot live without certain channels would be the ones to support the bill for them, but not how it works. Cost increase for any local affects all customers whether they watch them or not, or regardless if they are in the viewing market in the first place, as it is flat rated across the entire customer base.

Cost are going to increase regardless, no matter what. Even of Tenga does make a deal with Directv, it'll still end up costing us more in the end. They'll always be some reason to increase the bill, cause it's all about money, not satisfying the customer. And do you not realize some areas are not allowed to use antennas, that went out years ago?! Also, in the rural areas, antennas (Edited per community guidelines)! I'm in the middle of the country area and yea I rely on the news, especially if the weather is going to be bad. I'm not going to apologize for wanting to keep my family safe but yall don't care, that's obvious.
