Connection speed and broadcast resolution
Is there a way to see your connection speed (Mbps) and/or broadcast resolution being transmitted? My TV Display button shows 4k but that's because it's up-scaled. I am viewing on my Sony 4k TV.

Hold down the dash button on the lower left side of the remote for 5-6 seconds--u can see what resolution each channel is. U can test the internet connection speed under settings---help---run network diagnostics. The box has a 10/100 ethernet adaptor so that will not test above 100. Wifi will test whatever speed you are getting

Which device are you using? If you have the DTV STREAM box you can download a Speed Test app and verify your download speed. I have Analiti (a free app) that gives you a quick overview if your connection is suitable for 1080p, 4K, 8K, etc. based on your WiFi connectivity. To check the further details on the DTV STREAM box you can go to preferences > system > general > system summary ... you will see VIDEO STATUS that will display Streaming Quality (for me it's HD 1080p).

@zovuna As I stated in the post you accepted as a solution---Dtv stream box ethernet adaptor is only 10/100. That's why you see 84 (100 and under)

My DTV box shows 4k as default. Some streaming companies like YTTV allow you to see actaul -at-the-moment connection speed and resolution on the scree when watching program., Fubo TV is another.
Anyway, picture quality looks very good, and so far, one day, all is good.

That may be the resolution output by the C71K box, but the actual broadcast/cable channels are 720p or 1080i. Ther are no 4K broadcasts.
For DirecTV Satellite, call 1-800-531-5000.
For DirecTV Stream, call 1-888-429-4023.

Yes, I know that, which is why I was asking how to see the connection speed and resolution. You can do that with Fubo TV and YTTV. Apparently it cannot be done with DTV Streaming box.

That was perfect, answered my question perfectly.
I have over 300 Mbps download speed and verified it this morning with speed test on PC. I ran the speed test following your directions, surprisingly, the speed came up with 28 Mbps on DTV box. Can you make any sense of that?
When I checked my speed on YTTV and Fubo TV and PS5, always got over 200 Mbps. So I am confused by what the DTV box stated.

Are you using ethernet or wifi with your Dtv stream box? Try that diagnostic more than once and make sure there aren't other things eating up major bandwidth.

I am using Ethernet for all TVs and PC. I will check again later when there aren't any recordings being made. Thanks for your help--you appear to be very knowledgeable.
Funny thing is even with that 28 Mbps download speed, picture quality looked (Edited per community guidelines) good on my Sony 4k TV. I was able to change channels and not one single issue
I wonder if Apps not in use are affecting download speed?

I just checked with no recordings active and speed came back at 84 Mbps with message my connection is Strong. I noticed the remote is connected via Bluetooth, DTV box is Ethernet.

@zovuna recordings for DIRECTV STREAM happen in the cloud, and they don't eat your bandwidth.

Okay, thanks! The question remains why is the speed showing 84 Mbps when checking on PC it shows over 300 Mbps?

The speed won't be higher than 100Mbps because that's the maximum speed of the 10/100 Ethernet adapter in the box. So 84Mbps is probably about right.

Ah, that is interesting. I think my Shield Pro TV device used for both Fubo TV and YTTV has a 1000 Ethernet adapter, so that would explain the difference in speed. Although, regardless of what the speed shows on DTV device, the picture quality has so far been excellent.
