Directv stream app won't play on Roku

My DirecTv app constantly stops working on all my Roku devices. By "stops working" I mean the app displays the DirecTv logo and nothing else when you start it. If I delete the app from one Roku device (which deletes it from all my Roku devices) and then reinstall it from the Roku store it will work again for a while on multiple Rokus (maybe 24 hours max).  This issue has been happening for approximately 1 week now.

I am using multiple Rokus model 48000 (Roku Ultra) OS Version 11.0.0 build 4193-C2 connected via Ethernet to my home network. Generally, I run 2-3 DirecTV streams at one time.

Hello @dpstavros we're here to help you and work on a fix with your ROKU device.

Please, give it a try to these additional steps to solve some common Roku streaming issues.

Also you can check the Compatible streamming devices to watch DIRECTV STREAM.

In the meantime, reply to the PM we've just sent to take a closer look at this.

We're ready to help you.

There seems to be an issue going on with Roku's Directv Streaming app.  There are others who have been complaining about the same thing!  Hopefully, Directv Stream has a fix in the works.

I hope directv fixes this issue soon. Deleting and re-adding the app on my Roku's every day has become a real pain. I'll give it another week, then I'm looking for an alternative service!!!

I also have the issue of DirecTV Stream not loading issue on my Roku Ultra and Roku Premiere+. The only way to resolve it is to remove and re-add the app. It is getting annoying. The problem started after the latest app update version 3.30b build 3320103 on August 24.

Also having the same problem.  Sometimes the DTV Stream app will work for a few seconds, then it will show an error message “oops…” that suggests I try watching something else.  My workaround is to launch another app, like Netflix or Hulu and the try DTV again.  Sometimes I have to do this several times or turn the TV off and on again.  I’ve deleted and reloaded the app and I even did a factory reset on the TV.  The error messages occur about half the time I try and connect to DTV.  Very frustrated.  Since other apps work fine, I have to assume it’s a problem with the DTV app.

I am having a bit different problem. My app goes to screen that says DirecTV Stream and then to blue screen with circle and a light going around and around. I have spoken with DirecTV 5x and Roku once. No one has a fix and I'm so frustrated!

You are experiencing buffering caused by congestion. The data is not being received quick enough to display the content. Are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet? What is your internet speed?

Wifi. Modem is directly behind TV. I believe it is 500?  This would still be the case even if other services work? Netflix, etc?

@danip1969 Depending on the type of Roku that you have I would try to hard wire with an ethernet cable as it might help with your buffering as your router which provides your wifi signal is either slow or has a bad connection.   You could also check your wifi speed on your Roku by going into settings and then go to network then go to check connection.  Also, Netflix and most other non-live TV streaming services can stream on a much slower connection than Live streaming such as the Directv App it requires a lot more wifi speed.  Hope this helps.

@danip1969  According to Directv Stream, you should have at least 10Mbps per streaming device with your Roku download at only 19Mbps you should have enough if that is the only thing connected to your wifi. If you have any other devices such as cell phones, tablets, computers, or anything that you connect to your wifi to the internet that all uses up your wifi speed, and the more you have the less that is dedicated to your device.  So the best way to fix your streaming issue would be to increase your internet speed or to disconnect any other devices that may be trying to connect to your wifi while trying to stream your Directv Stream or if you can hard wire your Roku with an ethernet cable so that your speed will not drop at all this would be the best solution to your buffering problem.
