Heavy Network Congestion - Ughhh!
I'm consistently getting 5-7 times per week and like 10 times on Thanksgiving day the message "When the network is heavily congested, your video may not play smoothly.". In many cases it just stops and starts about a 30-60 seconds later. You also lose the last 60 seconds of programming. This is frustrating and in my opinion a DirectTV Streaming network capacity issue. Here's why:
- I am using a FireTV Stick 4K Max and it is a WIRED connection. I also have Gigabit Fiber (1000 mbps) and there were no other devices being used in the house - streaming was it!
- Over the last 3 months I have been testing Hulu Live, Youtube Live, and Directv Stream. DirectTV wins for 5.1 Audio on almost all channels which is an important feature for me - however they lose the streaming competition. At no time did Hulu or Youtube give me streaming issues or degraded quality like what happens with DT Streaming
- I think Directv Streaming needs to acknowledge the issue and fix it - otherwise I think they will lose customers and I'll end up going back to something more traditional.
By the way - I have also rebooted my devices/routers and that does nothing either and in fact happened only an hour after rebooting.
Has anyone else experienced this or have a solution? Perhaps different DNS settings or something?

I've seen more than a few people post in here and on reddit issues with the Firestick max.

I have been a Directv stream user since it first came out under a different name.. I am having the same exact problem as Coloroda3G. It seems to have just started in the past couple months or maybe just more noticeable. It's almost hourly now and terrible if your watching sports. Only happens on directtv stream all other apps are fine. Thought it was just me so glad to see it's not just me.

I get constant buffering or something about delay or similar. Its happened so many times. When happens to movies, I end up having to watch the entire thing again. Frustrating and gets me mad because its near the end. Happens with basic news channels too. I have Nov marked down and has happened nearly every day. 2, 3 4 times a day. And at early morning hours like 2AM. I have to restart I am considering dropping . It has started right when Direct Stream took over. And has turned to bleep since

Just reporting back - I received and installed the Direct TV Streaming Box and so far - I really like it! Haven’t had any streaming issues with it, but still need some time to watch more TV. I like the interface and remote a whole lot better and the 15 second skip is awesome.

They sell them on the directv stream website.
https://www.directv.com/stream/technology/
I can also order them via live chat and I think u can under your account details--mange my device.

Oh, you have a grandfathered plan? U can also by stream boxes off ebay. Go with Roku I've seen few complaints about their app vs others. I also use android tv with a sideloaded app that works really well in my spare bedroom.

I had issues with the Roku too where the volume would randomly garble, get loud or quiet but that’s much less frustrating then the show just freezing randomly.

Apps are the most problematic. My sideloaded Tivo stream 4k app works well though I've never had an issue. My dtv stream box works the best though.

there is a problem with direct tv app on fire stick and casting to google devices. in the cowboy games last night was bad with the error of network congestion is streaming services netflix does not do that playing dobly amos movies. i got feed up with this being that they could not provide the services they are stating streaming. i try the youtube tv show me the game on 1080p not 720p like streaming on firestick. they lost costumers for sure. am one of them. and then they make it hard to cancel your subscription going trough all this red tapes.

Same situation here: 4 tvs with FireTV sticks, streaming wirelessly with 450 Mbps speed. Issue starting back in October 2021 intermittently, and has worsened to several times a day now. I'm not sure if it's Spectrum Internet, DTV Stream, or FireTV stick, so I'm using process of elimination. Today, Spectrum configured my signal to come from one of their less congested servers; I'll see if that fixes the issue and report back. If not, then I'll try changing sticks....maybe Roku

I originally started this thread with a FireTV Stick. If I would have stayed with the FireTV stick - I would have cancelled DirectTV. However - I switched to the DirectTV streaming box and not one issue in 3 months and get all the same apps as I did on the FireTV stick. I still have a FireTV 4k on another TV and it does the same thing regarding network congestion....we just don't use it that much to justify a new box but will probably switch at some time. Don't even mess - just buy the DirectTV box. The remote is much better too along with the guide!

Follow-up on my 2/7/2022 post: the update by my ISP (Spectrum) appears to have fixed my issue. I have not seen this error message on any of my TVs that are streaming content in two days. Amazing! So, I would definitely recommend checking to see if your ISP can configure your modem to link to a less-congested server. Seems to have done the trick, and I didn't have to swap out my FireTV sticks -- hallelujah!
