How do I extend the recording time for sporting events?

I would like to be able to add time to the scheduled recording of many sporting events. I can't find any options that allow me to do this. T

No auto extend on the ND v Syracuse football game.  Definitely a NCAA Div. 1 game.  So, I missed the last 8 (game) minutes.  If there is not going to be auto extend, Directv Stream should say so up front.  Never had this problem with cable.

Why  is there no auto extend for LPGA or Senior Tour golf? Does Direct  tv staff decide which population is more important and women and seniors are not important to them?

PLEASE just give us the option to manually PAD recordings, since auto-extend often FAILS, for games/leagues where it's supposed to work - examples below.

Also if other shows are bumped because a sporting even runs long, the end of THOSE shows gets cut off. VERY ANNOYING.

Also if we could manually choose how long to manually pad shows, it would work for OTHER sports and leagues where auto extend isn't an option.

It would be less hassle and less additional (not accurately titled) recordings cluttering our DVR lists.

Recent examples:

World Series game 2 FAILED to auto-extend for me. (I didn't record game 1 but I've seen a post that it failed.)

Several Div 1 college football games failed to auto-extend for me on Saturday Oct 19, including:

GA Tech - FSU

Auburn - Arkansas
Syracuse - Notre Dame

Pitt - UNC

We are also missing the games listed above.  Missed the finish of the World Series games!  The “+auto extend” icon appears in the info but the recordings end at scheduled time.

We have noticed that programs such as INTouch on Sunday mornings are getting cut off on the front end and beginning 4-5 minutes into program. You Tube tv was perfect on the recording options with extended time for sports every time. We just wanted to have Bally Sports North and You Tube Tv could no longer offer that programming or we have not switched to Direct Stream.

Not having the ability to extend the record time on the Direct Stream service is a downfall in the design and programming of this service! It is available on Uverse!

It was asked in an earlier comment as to what sports event. ANY football game! Pro or college. As anyone that watches sports knows, they never end at the scheduled time!

CBS is now notorious for that also! The NCIS programs rarely begin on time!

Please correct this error in the program design.

The problem is not just with sporting events, some competitions like baking shows go over and do not extend so you do not know the winner.

can’t you add a “extend end time” button like cable tv

Well, it's been asked many times before. Still no manual extend and only on certain sports. Until they provide an option, just make sure you record next program.

@ricardoj52 - U-Verse uses an on premise DVR (basically a disc inside one of your set top boxes), which makes features like “extend recording” easy to add. Stream uses a cloud DVR, and depending on some implementation choices they made (with different trade offs) it might be similarly easy or might be very difficult to add.  As noted, people have been asking for that ability (manually extend a recording) since the DVR feature was added (years ago), with no change. This may imply that it would be difficult. Still, it’s unlikely that it is impossible, so we keep hoping.

You are only talking to other customers in a public forum. Voice your requests to support via Twitter or Facebook. No one here can fix anything only recommend or suggest alternatives.

The best option so far has been to record the next one or two shows after the sporting event. This as I know it is the only option to get what we want in extending the recording length at the end of sporting events.

I used to do this even when I had DVR's for satellite service. Because the auto extension sometimes didn't get it done.

Until they come up with something, give this a try.

Hope this helps.

As an avid sports consumer, my time with DirecTV streaming won’t last long. Clearly, this carries no weight or priority for them to fix. Very disappointing as I otherwise enjoy the service.

As a fairly casual sports viewer, I have a serious question - is recording live sports to watch later that critical, and if so, why?

I do watch some sports, but it I can’t watch them when they happen, I live without or afterwards can (generally) see the highlights via the ESPN app, an RSN app, or other.  Why is having the entire game/event available to replay after the fact that useful?

@Jrandomuser it's not about a full game later, it's about flexibility while watching. For example, I'll regularly start a game 30-45 mins late with the intention of fast-forwarding through commercials as I go. Alternatively, I might get interrupted and want to watch just a few minutes behind. Having the program set up to record helps with both scenarios. But if auto-extend fails, as it often has for me recently, I end up either a) missing the most exciting part of the game or b) having to scramble to switch between the recording and live TV to get the end of the game. Both of these would be addressed by allowing for manually padding of recordings.
