I dont want to change my IP address I want to dictate which of my multiple IP addresses are used by my router for traffic destined for DirecTV Stream.

The IP address is determined by your ISP for your modem, not by DirecTV. If the IP address is changing, then that issue is with your ISP.

You use a LAN, correct? For example, each computer/device has a number like 192,168.0.2, 192.168.0.3 ---What kind of router do you have? I used to have  Netgear and you can just select which IP on your LAN is for Directv and open it for all traffic for your firewall. Your router should tell you the LAN IP for your Dtv Stream box in the Router's settings.

I have a pfSense router and I have multiple devices in my home that are used to stream. The problem I have is that with dual WAN connections that are load balancing sometimes the traffic will go out the WAN link that is not designated as my home network. This will cause an issue where only 2 TVs can use the service even though I'm at home. I've tried doing a packet capture but it's kind of like looking for a needle in a haystack trying to figure out specifically which IP/range is used to verify the home network IP address. Most of the streaming is done via akami it seems but not sure about the IP used to verify the home network IP address.

The reason for your limitation of 2 TV's is due to the fact that your modem IP address is being changed randomly by your ISP provider. Common practice by ISP's as ports are being freed and moved to existing gateways. When this occurs, the service thinks that you are away from your home network based on your CC billing address and the IP location.

Hi Everyone!  I would like to lend dxmaster a hand here.  They do not need to know their IPs for their devices in their home, they already know these.  They want to know the IPs for the DirecTV service so they can set up their network configurations.

More succinctly, what are the IPs for the DirecTV Stream services?

DirecTV Stream is a service. The only IP to consider is the modem IP provided by your ISP.

bcbsncjlj, that is not correct.  It does matter for what dxmaster is trying to do.   Please don't continue to answer if you don't understand the question, it only confuses the issue.

I totally understand the issue. You don't. His issue is he has multiple WAN connections. The content is delivered from the ISP to the modem. Depending on where you live, and the ISP involved, everyone has a different delivery of the content to the modem. You are not receiving the content from DirecTV Stream, but from your ISP. That IP is different for everyone.

None of the responders seem to understand what you are asking - that you want to know DirecTV's IP address (or really, the address they are streaming from) so you can set your router's routing table to route that traffic out the correct WAN link (the one that DirecTV has designated as your "home" network).  As you note they use Akami as their CDN (at least that is the case right now), so they are doing both GSLB and server load balancing, and the former is (I believe) always at the DNS level, so there isn't going to be an address - instead there is (probably) a domain name. The web browser access (for PC viewing) uses stream.directv.com and it is easy enough to use nslookup to find the address(es) reported for that.  For me this reports multiple IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.  Using traceroute, it is using one of the v6 addresses, implying they are preferential for v6 (which I find both a bit surprising and a positive thing).

However, I don't know if the streaming devices would match that lookup - I don't know if they target the same servers (they use different protocols and none of their access mechanisms are visible, so they don't have to) and while I believe most (with the explicit exception of Roku) support v6 for transport, I have no idea what DNS capabilities they have.  If you assume that they access the same servers, you could route all the addresses nslookup returns, but I have no idea how you would validate that doing so handles your requirement (unless perhaps negative validation if you get errors).

IT person here.  This is an IT question.  If you do not have an IT background, don't weigh in with authority in this question.  This has NOTHING do do with users' home service, their ISP etc.  If that doesn't make sense to you, don't reply insisting it does, please.

To help people understand what is being asked, let's look at a company like Zoom.  They provide a FAQ of the IP addresses THEIR servers use to provide THEIR services.  This allows firewall people to prioritize bandwidth to ensure QoS.  This is basic, standard fare when optimizing streaming quality.

dxmaster is asking for the server IP addresses that DirecTV streams from so that he can optimize HIS own specific setup to work best with DirecTV.  He does not need help with his home network, firewall, Internet connection etc. so please don't chime in with anything of that sort.

Jrandomuser thank you for contributing here, let's use your response as an example of what is actually being asked as you do understand.  Adding to your answer, it is unlikely we would be able to find this info on our own, someone with technical knowledge from DirecTV would have to provide us with everything, in the same manner that a company like Zoom already does.  As an Untangle NG user myself, I find this lack of info very frustrating.

Yeah, I gave up for the time being lol if I get the message that I exceeded my out of home streams I just shutdown the secondary wan connection for a bit. 😂
