Picture blackout
I watch Direct Tv stream thru my Samsung smart tv. An issue has developed recently. Intermittently the picture blacks out for about 20 seconds, comes back as a frozen picture for about 30 seconds to a minute, then picture returns.

Like others - get an external streaming device. The issues with the Samsung apphas been extensively reported through out the forums. There is no fix. You can live with it, change services, or do the obvious which is to add an external device.

There's clearly an issue with the Samsung DirecTV Stream App. Who knows when or if it will be updated. TV-based Apps are notorious for issues like this.

You're not alone....
It seems that DirecTV and Samsung aren't playing well with each other.
I've been working on a resolve for a week and the finger pointing has been unbelievable.
There is more than one issue causing these problems and I'm inclined to believe it is an addressing algorithm being used by DirecTV.

So you deem the entire Dtv Stream service "horrendous" simply b/c of an app on Samsung Tv's? I have a Samsung tv and their Dtv stream app was iffy before these recent issues and that's why I purchased a Dtv Stream box. I couldn't be happier with the Dtv stream service compared to the other streaming services and cable tv.

One of my Samsungs is from 2017 and runs Apps fine. However, there are Apps that are bloated that give any system problems.
I use solid-state USB2 or 3 Thumb Drives to install apps on.
I might mention that being a DTV customer, you can install separate channel apps that you regularly use for a workaround.
