Please for the love of god, FIX THE 10-SECOND SCREEN SAVER.
We have a streaming/Genie, so nobody suggest 'disconnect the internet'. Don't say 'turn off screen saver' in settings, it doesn't affect this feature.
If you're watching a show and pause it, in 30 seconds (actually, for Christmas, it seems to be down to 10 seconds now), it goes to a screen saver / advertisement. So, maybe you're watching a show, the show is showing a phone with text messages or a letter, that of course the director puts up on the screen for 2 seconds. So you pause it, get up, and step up to the TV to read the phone screen or letter. By the time you get there and read two words, DIRECT TV JUMPS TO A SCREEN SAVER. C'mon guys, people have been complaining about this for years. A screen saver shouldn't trigger until maybe 5 minutes.
The most hilarious comment is they did this "to prevent TV burn in." Uh, dude, I threw away my last cathode ray tube TV something like 10 years ago. And it was the basement TV. LCD TV's don't 'burn in'.

Hi, @Sdrevik. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. This is working as designed. If paused for approximately 30 seconds, an ad displays and remains until the screen saver starts after approximately 5 minutes. Ariane, DIRECTV Community Specialist

Can it be “redesigned” to be longer? Or a menu item added to disable it?

Though a lot of people are using LED/LCD/Plasma TVs now, many still have older TVs in the mix (usually CRT, but some will not let go of tube for as long as it works). And some new TV are certainly more resistant, but not immune to issues from a static display. So by keeping a screen saver they keep themselves protected from any blame.
That being said, it would be nice if either the time was longer in general or better yet had a small selection of lengths to choose from. But do not expect them to allow it to be turned off completely.
