3d content aspect ratio for dtv?

watched thor 3d the other day, and there were black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. i realize this is 16:9 , but it looks horrible for 3d . i want my whole screen to be used. any way to change this? lg 3d tv says cannot change format of screen while in 3d mode. and no options on dtv hr24. looking for ways to see a 3d movie from dvt (dtv cinema, or 3d on demand) in full screen, just like the 3d channels. thanks.

I appears the movie is being shown in its 2.35:1 original aspect ratio. It's a good thing you didn't post your question on a movie enthusiasts site. People would come out of the woodwork to flame you for your wanting to chop the sides off the picture the director intended to present. If your TV won't allow it, you're stuck with that format. DirecTV HD outputs cannot be manipulated. Get a bowl of popcorn, turn off all the lights and watch it after sunset. Pretend you're in a movie theater. Sit closer if you want a bigger picture. In a dark room, all you'll see is the picture and you won't miss the extra screen space.

The "I paid $$$ for my TV and want to see all of it" crowd and the "I paid $$$ for the right and ability to see this movie and I want to see all of it" crowd will never understand each other's point of view.
