The following Samsung TVs are listed as compatible.
Samsung Models: LN55C750R2F, LN46C750R2F, UN55C9000ZF, UN46C9000ZF, UN55C8000XF, UN46C8000XF, UN55C7000WF, UN46C7000WF, UN40C7000WF, PN50C7000YF, PN58C7000YF, PN63C7000YF, PN50C8000YF, PN58C8000YF, PN63C8000YF.
If you have one of these, check with Samsung to see if a Firmware upgrade is available. A have a Panasonic TV on the compatible list and 106 is working as expected. The method DirecTV uses to deliver 3D is different from the Blu-Ray delivery. The former works on a standard HDMI cable whereas the latter requires the latest type.

This just figures. The Samsung DLPs don't have native side by side support, but the D* receiver thinks they are 3D capable and allow them to get the signal. But my Mitsubishi 73738 which does have native side by side supports comes up as being not 3D capable. What a bunch of junk.

It's still very new. Give them some time to sort it out. Have you called or emailed DirecTV directly about your specific issue?

Yes. I had a conference call between D* and Mits. Basically the only Mitsu EDID info that was put into the firmware upgrade was for the upcoming 3DA-1 adapter. They left out the 738/838 series by mistake. They said a future firmware release may support them.
I understand it's new, but if they can support the brand new Samsung and Panasonic TVs with SbS support, why couldn't they support the new Mitsus?

Panasonic is a partner in the project. That means they are putting money into it. In business, the money gets the action. Mitsubishi also had an odd way of handling HD inputs early on.

I do have one of the compatible sets, the Samsung PN58C8000YF, purchased in May at BB; should I need a firmware upgrade?

If it's not working properly, then possibly yes. Check their web site. Also, be sure that the HD DVR is connected DIRECTLY to the 3DTV via HDMI, not through an AV Receiver. And the HR20 HD DVRs won't work for 3D.

If you hit the 3D button on your Samsung remote, you should be able to select a mode, there is a mode with the side by side icons on it. Click on it.

We have at our office on display a DirecTV HR23, Samsung LN55C8000 LED TV, Samsung Blu-ray (forgot model#) and Integra DTR 30.2 surround sound receiver. The Integra is 3D HDMI pass thru compliant when using 1.3b or 1.4 HDMI cables as we have tested. The 3D pass thru of the blu ray is just fine going thru the Integra. I suppose many of the 3D ready Onkyo receivers will show this same issue.
When hooking the DTV HR23 and looping its HDMI signal thru the Integra all channels but 106 worked just fine. Since we want to demo 106 off the DVR recordings of some soccer games. We had to run a new 1.4 HDMI cable right to the TV and bypass the Integra to make work. The problem we had trying to get channel 106 to work is it was displaying (what looked like) a PIP split screen. Rather than the typical blurry 3D image when not using the Active Shutter Glasses.
IMHO this kinda blows. Now that means there is 2 3D formats out there and no standard. Since there are more Blu-ray manufactures out there than DTV 3D channels, every system will have to be hooked up different. For me... I hope Integra offers a firmware update soon so it can handle both types of 3D formats. IMHO DTV is the odd ball way of doing it.
This is just one instant that I have come across being a high end home theater integrator of 20 years. I'm sure some other people will run across other equipment that works just fine or not. Good Luck. Just thought I would add in my $0.02 and hope others will read this in hopes it helps in trouble shooting this issue.
