3D upgrade and activation

We'll probably have an whole new subject heading for 3D soon. My cousin has s Mitsubishi DLP "3D ready" TV, and was told by a CSR that the new 3D transmission format won't support the Mitsubishi format. Will there be any conversions for this, or are we in for another VHS vs BETAMAX, BLU-RAY vs HDDVD type war? Will there be an extra charge to access these channels? Anyone have "the scoop"?
