Andoid Direct TV app - new version always errors out

I updated to the 2.1.1 version of the DIRECTV mobile app recently.   Ever since I applied this update I have been unable to start the application.

The error I get "The application DIRECTV (process.com.directv.dvrscheduler) has stopped unexpectedly.  Please try again"   "Force Close"

I have the HTC Hero phone from Sprint - Firmware Version 1.5, Baseband version - 1.04.01.09.21,

Kernel version - 2.6.27-533ce29d htc-kernel@and18-2, Software Version 1.56.651.2

I keep trying and trying but it always fails.   I've turned the phone off and back on, closed most every app but still get the error.   I have not been able to use the application since upgrading.
