AT&T Direct TV Genie disappointment with Echo Plus Alexa Skill
I have had my new Amazon Echo since Saturday 7/6/19 and have already spend at least 12 hours trying to connect the Echo Plus 2nd generation to my Direct TV Genie. I have contacted both Amazon and AT&T Direct TV's 2nd level help desk. Below are all of the actions I have attempted to rectify the connectivity issue; reset all Direct TV client's / minis and Genie tower, installed and removed Alexa Android application twice. Installed and deleted mini's and tower from Alexa devices on three occasions. Linked and unlinked Genie tower and minis on 3 occasions from Alexa / Direct TV skills. Port forwarded Genie TCP / UDP addresses on my NetGear Night Hawk router. Enabled the Direct TV whole-home external devices in the Genie settings mode. Changed and ensured the wireless network speed for my LG TV / Direct TV Genie / Alexa Echo 2 gen are all connected to 2.4 ghz. And finally, reset the Amazon Echo back to the original factory setting's.
As of today, I have relinked the Echo skills for my front door quick-set lock, wireless lamps, ADT pulse, Ring doorbell, SiriusXM and Bose Sound Link Bluetooth speaker. Each of these devices were linked / setup in minutes. I have been a 30 year AT&T loyal wireless customer and a 12 year client of Direct TV. I deal with 3rd party VAR's (Value Added Resellers for the past 35 years and have never experience anything like this.
In the U.S., our Tech corporations are releasing new products every day. However to save expenses, they are using the general public for the R&D technical issue resolutions. I hope in the future, the general public STOPS purchasing new products to send a loud message to these corporations. This practice of producing and selling hardware without full testing is unethical.
By the way, my Amazon Echo 2nd generation cannot link with the AT&T Direct TV Genie system.

Hi There @billybob59
Thank you so much for the feedback on the Alexa skill that will not connect to your DIRECTV Genie system. We would love to look at this.
If we can have the error messages are you getting when you try to link the Echo to the DIRECTV Network?
Looking forward to hearing back from you.

After approximately 10 hours with 2nd IT level support from Amazon and AT&T, the Genie mini is linked as a Alexa device. However the Direct TV skill commands are not recognized by the Echo. If you read all of the one star AT&T forum post, this issue has been occurring since October 2018.
There are no error codes. To simplify, the AT&T skill command does not work with the Echo Plus and AT&T's Direct TV's genie devices. I have already sent a complaint to Direct TV's retention department. This product / application was released without a department at AT&T support it.
