Cannot pause DirecTV for more then a minute without it restarting on its own

I have been experiencing a problem with my DirecTV system and/or service for the last several weeks.

It seems to have started around the time that you implemented additional AT&T advertising when the system has been paused.  I live in the southwest, and this extra advertising layer took effect around a month ago.  For the first week, it was just an extra annoyance, but then an additional problem started consistently happening. 

Now, I cannot pause DirecTV for more than a minute without it restarting on its own.

The specific behavior is as follows:

  1. Hit the pause button.
  2. 30-45 seconds later, additional advertising mode starts.
  3. 30 seconds after that, the pause is canceled and the channel/recorded program resumes.

The reason that I believe this is related to your new advertising mode, is that when it kicks in, you display the message "Press any button to dismiss this screen", If I do this, the advertising mode goes away, and my program remains paused (at least for 5 minutes, until you automatically start your advertising mode again).  Results seem to be inconsistent after that, sometimes it stays paused, sometimes not.

I am using an HR44/500 receiver, and it is using version 0x153c (6/2) software.

One of the main reasons to subscribe to your service and choose a DVR receiver is to pause live programming.  I dislike the advertising mode enough, but breaking basic functionality in the process is making me rethink how I receive my TV programming.

Try resetting the DVR using the red button near the access card.

I too am having the same problem. My receiver was replaced last month and is an HR54-200, Software Version 0x153c, downloaded Tuesday June 8, 2021, the same version used by tarabill above.

I have a Mini-Genie in the bedroom a Client C61-100 Client Software Version 0x1521 and the problem doesn't happen there.

The issue appears to be a software problem, (0x153c), downloaded by DirecTV in June of 2021.
