Can't find the "server"

Well, this worked at one point, but now none of my computers can "see" the DirecTV receiver HR21. I have software 0x16c, and am running the server on a wide range of Vista PCs. I have rebooted the HR21 a few times.

It is up on the network, pingable, but I can't get the software to see the server. Just swapped out to a more modern router that supports uPNP, but no go. Very frustrating.

If you haven't already, you might try disabling Windows firewall and then see if it finds the DVR. On thing, my pc takes about 10 minutes before is finds the DVR.

Tried that. It still doesn't find it. the fact that it was there at one point, and now no longer is, bothers me.

I also can't see the HR-21 as a "Media device" in the network console.

The DVR shows up twice now on my pc. Once for the media share and once as a media server (DIRECTV2PC).

You might go through the Media Share forum and see if you can get that working. The two may have a common problem.

Sorry I couldn't be of more helpful.

A couple of other things you might look into.

The pc and the DVR must be in the same sub-net. If they are not you could still ping the DVR, but it won't be seen by the pc(s).

DirecTV suggests de-installing IPv6 if you can't connect to the DVR. My guess is that the DVR only supports IPv4.

I have both on my Vista pc.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I definitely am having some sort of issues with the media-sharing portion of the HR-21 not being viewable by my PCs. However, I have media sharing working just fine with my XBOX360 - which sits directly on top of the HR-21, along with other PCs in the house and my SONOS multi-room audio system.

At one point yesterday, for a brief second, the HR-21's media share icon popped up in the sharing dialogs in Vista on at least one of my systems, but it vanished just as quickly.

Given that I have like 6 different computers with a variety of malware software ranging from Norton to Trend to Avast - and that I have turned on and off firewalls, and swapped routers, I tend to think that its something deep and insidious in my network... or in the HR-21.

But there's definitely a media share problem, and I'm going to explore that route now. media share *was* working, but now it appears to be gone.

no luck here, still can't get anything to work... Like I said before, it did work early on, but now nothing is connecting, cannot find the receiver. Are there specific ports I should forward?

IMO, this software needs a lot of work. Every other UPNP device on my network works just fine.

I think I've discovered the cause of the problem - it's my SONOS system in the house. SONOS and DirectvPC do not coexist. BUMMER. I hope DirecTV fixes this.

Jim - I cannot "find" my HDDVRs either. they are bothed hooked up to the internet via the Sonos ethernet port. How do you know that os the sonos system? I have vista ultimate and cannot "see" the DVRs on my network - just the sonos players. When I lookat another PC running Windows XP and go to the media sharing section of windows media player, that PC can see the HDDVRs fine.

Any further info you can give me? Is it the sonos network itself or is it the fact that they are hooked up to the sonos ehternet ports?

thanks..

Are you getting your ip addresses automaticaly (dhcp)? I was having all sorts of connection problems until I turned off dhcp in my router and started using static ip's. That took care of everything, even media share issues.

Hey all

I was wondering if anyone has downloaded the directv to PC recently??

on tuesday april 14 I was able to download and receive my activation key right away. everything is working great. On wednesday I was able to download the .exe as many times as I wanted but I am still waiting for my key. I have tried 3 more times with 2 different email addresses, but still nothing. It has been 24 hours since I last submitted. wondering if cyberlink is no longer sending activation keys>
