Can't get HDTV

I've been a customer of Directv (SD only) since 2003, and in February I ordered and received an HDTV DVR, and had the installer out to try to install it. He immediately told me that I couldn't recieve the HDTV package because of trees being in the way of one of the satelittes. He actually did show me a spot in my front yard that I could put the dish on a pole, but I knew my wife wouldn't approve ;-).

Since then I've suspended my account, and moved to cable, and enjoy the HD DVR I have, but miss Directv tremendously. I'm thinking of going back when NFL season starts, or just cancel it completely.

My question to you all is: Has anything changed since February regarding the location of satellites (or different satellites) that would allow me to receive the HD signal.

(I don't remember which satellite it was that I couldn't receive, but it was just one of them).
