Connecting my hr24 to the internet through my router via ethernet cable

So I am trying to connect my hr24 to the internet by running an ethernet cable directly from the reciever to my linksys e 1200 router.  When I tell it to connect I get "a problem was detected" message with result code 86-511.  IP address and subnet mask both say ok, default gateway and dns just have dashes, network has coax not connected (9) and internet has not connected (13).  I have checked my cables and connections.  I have contacted linksys support and verified that the port I am connecting to is working.  I have contacted Direct Tv "support" and was told they can't do anything and was refered here.  I am very frustrated at this point.  What am I missing? Please help.

After you've connected the ethernet cable between your HR24 and router, push the HR24's red reset button behind the front panel access card door. This will force the DVR to switch from it's default internal DECA coax network adapter to its ethernet adapter.   Then try the Network Setup again.

If after the red button reset you still have trouble connecting, here is the full bore reset.

Connect the Ethernet cable to the top port of the DVR and an open port on the router.  Check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential).   Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults. At this point stop and go to your router and disconnect AC power for a minute and plug it back in.  When all the lights settle down, go back to the DVR and run the "connect now" command.  You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.
