Direct TV app and TV watching on Apple TV
What are the proper steps for requesting new features for Direct TV access on the Apple TV?
I am considering dropping my Charter Spectrum TV services for DirecTV.
Mainly because for the same price, DirecTV offers more channels and actually has 4K content.
Yes, I do get that at this point in time, 4K broadcasting has not caught up with the market and TV systems.
So yes, I do get that at this point in time there are not a lot of channels on DirecTV broadcasting in 4K.
DirecTV also offers better DVR services than charter Spectrum, in my opinion. Realizing this is my opinion.
My only hesitation in switching is the fact that satellite TV services are very spotty in ANY type of inclement weather.... Rain, clouds, snow, thunderstorms
This is something I have seen numerous times personally in the past when having satellite or being at a friend or family member's house... A cloud goes over the house... Magically the satellite tv service goes out.
Spectrum offers a TV app for the apple TV so if the standard coax TV service goes out, you can at least watch TV via streaming, provided the streaming service isn't down at the same time, on the Apple TV.
AT&T TV offers an apple TV app so that if your AT&T TV box goes down you can still watch TV...
How do we go about requesting and getting this same service for DirecTV?
And no, not from DirecTV NOW where I have to pay an ADDITIONAL price on top of normal regular monthly costs.... The competition does this for FREE as part of your normal monthly subscription. So there's NO reason DirecTV can't do the same.
Yes, DirecTV would be a slight increase in my monthly expenses for TV service.
But given the superior TV quality in channels versus my current Spectrum TV.... If this ability were to be added so I could still watch tv when weather causes the satellite service to go out, I'd switch in a heartbeat and give my business to them. No hesitations.
And yes I get I can switch my "TV Provider" and download all the individual apps for the TV stations. Just seems dumb to do this when all the competitors offer a dedicated app.

There is no Directv app for an Apple TV or any other streaming device. The existing Directv app is for tablets and phones only. If you want to watch Directv on a TV, you need a receiver for that TV. As for your observation about losing signal in any kind of inclement weather, that has not been my experience. A properly aligned dish should only lose signal in severe weather. I only lose signal in very heavy rain. I lose satellite signal much less often than my cable went out when I had cable. When I do lose signal, I switch to OTA for my locals. You can usually watch other Directv channels over the internet using that channel’s or network’s app.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
They are appreciated.
My issue, concern, comments, questions aren't about finding a "Streaming" service over a Satellite or Cable solution
Charter spectrum is not a "streaming" service just like Directv. Yet they give the ability to ALL "Cable" subscribers to download the spectrum TV app to Xbox, Apple TV, Samsung TV's in the event the "cable" services go down and the streaming services are up for that "cable" subscriber to then be able to watch any and all of their subscribed content WITHOUT having to download the individual apps for that channel. Pulls up a guide and everything just as if they were on their SD box, HD box or DVR box.
So their primary focus is just like Directv.... To be a cable/satellite provider, not a stream provider. Yet they give this ability/service for FREE to anyone paying for their cable services.
Cox, TWC, Verizon FIOS all give this exact same service and ability for FREE to any of their "PAYING" cable subscribers.
AT&T/DirecTV don't....
As a customer potentially looking into taking my business elsewhere and giving my hard earned money to another business, this is a consideration and is frustrating....
To think that if in the offshoot the satellite service does go down, I am left with the decision and choices of I either pay for a completely separate subscription that will cost me just as much as my satellite services to get all my channels. Or download each individual channel app, log into each, potentially have to pay extra subscription fees (CBS ALL ACCESS AS AN EXAMPLE) in order to get all content, switch between those apps.....
All when this could be avoided by releasing a DIRECTV app like they do for the iPhone, iPad and android devices.
I think we all get the corporate America try and make as much money as possible mentality.
At a time when so many people are working from home, streaming services are becoming more of a viable solution over standard cable or satellite solutions, and the competition is drawing so many customers away from AT&T/DirecTV because of these abilities to still watch what you are paying for off your normal subscription, that there would be more willingness to make sure the company is retaining current customers and drawing more new subscribers. Instead of taking on the standard corporate scripted responses of we provide satellite. You want satellite come to us. You want streaming, pay for streaming and go elsewhere.

I certainly wouldn’t be against a Directv app for my Apple TV but it would very rarely get used, if ever. You do realize you still have access to all on demand content when your satellite service is out, yes? The only thing you are really complaining about is not being able to stream live content and some channels you can still do that. Tune a channel that displays “Press << to play from the beginning” and you can switch to on demand. It’s not quite live since it goes back to the beginning of that program but it’s nearly live.
