Direct tv media sharing with an imac computer
I have two HD-DVR's, with the whole-home network, both receivers have the decca hook up. In the den, I am using a Qwest wireless router/modem. I just bought a Panasonic TV with DLNA for internet apps, along with a Panasonic Blu-ray player and an Onkyo AV receiver with 3D pass through and 1.4 HDMI.
All of these are DLNA and because I did not want to use the wireless LAN adapters because of lower signal problems so I hard wire these to a Belkin 4 port cable/dsl gateway router.
I took an ethernet cable from the empty port behind the HD receiver in the living room and hooked it to the WAN port of the Belkin, then I took an ethernet cable on port 1 of the router to my TV, and I got the internet access to my TV with Panasonic's apps. I took another ethernet cable to port 2 to the Onkyo, and another one to my Blu-ray. I have internet access via the Belkin router, but I can't get the media sharing applications to work.
I called DTV today, and he said that I should not hook up anything to the back of the HD receivers ethernet port; it has to be blank and that is why I am having the problems.
Is he right? How can I hook up my Belkin router to hard wire my equipment, or should I use the wireless LAN adapters that I bought for the TV, Onkyo receiver, and Blu-Ray player, then maybe the media sharing on my mac will work? My Belkin router's lights are on when the equipment is on so that shows I have internet access.
I have posted my question to the Apple forum and most have good success, but I don't know if they are using Direct TV and the whole home network.
Thanks,
Daisymay

If you have the Whole Home DVR service he is spot on. If this be the case then you need to call Directv and have them return and run the necessary coax and install the DECA BB adapter which will connect your Whole Home system to your router.
If no Whole Home check that the router has DHCP enabled (essential). Do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR. When it's booted up, do thus: Menu -> .....setup -> system setup -> network setup -> restore defaults. At this point stop and go to your router and disconnect AC power for a minute and plug it back in. When all the lights settle down, go back to the DVR and run the "connect now" command. You should get a "connected to Internet" message. Allow 24 hours for the system to download then try downloading a concert from channel 1239 as a test.
