DirecTv 4K channels pictures are dim

Channels 104 and 105  deliver 4K content but the picture is dim.  The TV I have is a 4K HDR smart TV.  The 4K videos that I can play through the apps on the TV, such as YouTube, are beautiful 4K with true color and luminence, so the problem is not with the TV's capability to produce high quality 4K in HDR.  When I switch over to 4K content on 104 or 105, the picture is dim.  When sports content runs an option to watch the game in 4K on channel 104  I can select it and then switch back and forth from the HD broadcast to the 4K broadcast and it is quite obvious that the 4K isn't what it should be.

Is DirecTV working on this issue?  It seems obvious that something is amiss with the DirecTV signal since the apps can deliver quality 4K HDR content to the screen.

See lots of posts on this, here and in the TV forums (particularly Sony). It's something to do with the way some TVs process the Directv signal, which uses a particular type of HDR (HLG - see https://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range)

Thanks TexasBrit.  The link led me to some helps on settings for the 4K signal.  Made a couple of quick changes - not an exhaustive run-through of all the settings - and already the picture is looking much better.

Was told by an ATT/Directv employee today that HDR is activated ONLY on channel 108 (a PPV channel), despite the fact that "HDR" appears in the menu as being offered on other 4K channels 104-107 from time to time.  She said that a software update may be offered in the future to enable the other channels to offer HDR content.  While disappointed with what i feel is false advertising that HDR is offered by the satellite provider (see ad below), at least I got a bit of guidance on the issue and am hopeful that a software update enabling HDR on other 4K channels will come soon

Late last week, I upgraded (1) Genie (HR44-700) and (1) mini Genie (C41W-500) to (2) 4K Genies (C61K-700) along with a new HS17-500 Server.   I enjoy the variety of content being shown at this time on 4K channels 104 and 105 which include some Olympic events.   The resolution and overall picture clarity is awesome.  I saw there was an earlier comment that the channels were not displaying bright but I am not experiencing that condition at all.   The only thing I understand is at this time there are no Wireless 4K mini Genies yet in production so everyone needs to make sure each room where a 4K Genie would be in needs to have coaxial connectivity.

AFAIK there is not enough WiFi bandwidth to send 4K.

I am receiving 4K content on channels 104-108 using my Directv C61K-700 receiver and my 2020 Sony Android X800H.  I am using HDMI 2.0 cables and the appropriate inputs have been set to "enhanced" to acquire the HDR signal from devices the TV is connected to.  My Roku and my Sony 4K Blu-ray player play shows with HDR where it is available on native 4K content, but I do not receive it on Directv as HDR is not available on channels 104-107 (only PPV channel 108) at this time---despite the Directv guide advertising some programs on those channels with a "4K HDR" notation  in the listings for them.  Bandwidth is not an issue--I am receiving 4K content via my Roku and Directv receiver---just not getting the High Dynamic Range from the DTV box.  Hopefully a future software upgrade will enable to to enhance my enjoyment of the 4K sports programing from DTV.
