DirecTV app “Your rental has expired...”

While using the app, to try to watch live TV, the error message pops up:

Your rental has expired.  Please order again if you wish to continue streaming this specific content.

in a post 2 years ago, the solution suggested was to delete and redownload the app.  I did that.  I select a live TV show to watch and get the message now.  It doesn’t even start playing and then stop.

Normally, the app works for awhile and then freezes for a while, works then freezes, and so on.  Now I can’t even get it to start without this message.  I have tried it on two different devices.

We are having the same issue, been on the phone with AT&T for 3 hours now. We've deleted the app, reinstalled. Cleared all history and browsers multiple times.

I had to reconnect the DVR receiver to the network, (after giving up on DTV and waiting on the phone,...).  It took a while to repopulate the recorded shows as well.  I have no idea why the receiver became “disconnected”.  It was not physically disconnected.  I am guessing it had an automatic software update that created the problem.
