DirecTV app

Does anyone else need to type in the IP address for the receiver each time the app is opened?

No, you shouldn't have to continually type the IP address for the receiver every time the app is opened. What is the receiver model (s) that require you to do this? And how is the receiver connected to the internet (wired, wireless?)

Also, please be sure that the app has the correct account that the receiver is activated on. Also, be sure that your phone is on the same network as the receiver.

and are you using the app to control the TV? If you are and you can't seem to fix the issue, go to the App Store and download this app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/master-control-directv-remote/id903085287

@msgtedret this is definitely a weird situation. I would recommend rechecking the connection of the receiver and make sure the IP address of the receiver matches the IP address that your iPhone and iPad are connected to. Can you please tell me the model of your receiver (s) that are having the issue? You stated HR54 but I would like to know if any receivers are having the same issue.

Have a technician come out of the problem persists because the wireless connectivity of your HR54 may be defective. Have you tried connecting through ethernet?

ok. Have a technican come out to resolve the issue. A new HR54 may be needed (two year contract) if the technician finds out that the receiver is defective. Please feel free to mark this comment as resolved and make the chat is closed.

Yes, I have the same issue on multiple receiver models, where I have to enter their IP address each time I open the app. I went thru all of the same troubleshooting steps, even delete and reinstall app. Reconnect all receivers thru their network settings.

no change, so basically gave up because it was working before directv updated their app, so I am waiting for new version.

and yes it happens on both iPad and iPhone

Agreed.  It is only recently that this has been happening.  Of course, no one will admit that; just play ignorant.

yes, that worked for me two times. i've also deleted the app several times, restarted the device, unplugged the genies....all of it. also, the only way i can get to the screen to input the IP is to search for a remote. the app has been buggy since i got direct in 2016.

@msgtedret

I appreciate your patience and honesty. Unfortunately, this is a customer-to-customer forum and we really can't do much because we aren't there to help you diagnose the HR54. We are volunteering for this job and I hope you understand that we are far from ignorant. Thank you. I would recommend having a technician come out to diagnose the system and/or replace the HR54. Please also try downloading this app: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/master-control-directv-remote/id903085287

Once you have downloaded the app, it should recognize the HR54 and not be as buggy as the DTV app, which requires the IP address to be continually reentered.

I didn’t say that you are ignorant, I said you “play ignorant.” There’s a difference.  However, I do appreciate the information. Thank you.
