DIRECTV App
We heard you. DIRECTV is enhancing the DVR playback feature for satellite customers using the app and rolling out updates in the coming weeks. Customers with Internet connected HR44, HR54, or HS17 will be able to access and play most of their recordings by, August.

That’s good! I’m just a little curious about the ‘play most of their recordings’ wording. Are some of them unplayable? Would those be the ones that don’t have TV Everywhere functionality? Just curious in general.

4 or 5 years ago I was able to record shows on my HR 44 and watch them on my iPhone and my other TV that was not connected to a genie DVR, but using the same Internet, and I had no problems, but that was a few years ago. For the last year or two most recorded shows can't be watched/Streamed (when on "my List" menu on my iPhone device or my other Internet connected TV.
Directv should not misguide with false claims. I have called countless times and I'm using the latest app for DIRECTV.
Since I am not a DIRECTV Stream client, only DIRECTV customer I can't use DirectvStream app either.

As stated in the beginning of this post DTV is bring back the ability to stream from the Genie DVRs in future updates. DTV has combined the DTV sat app and the DTV streaming app.

It's been an issue for at least a couple of years now. A few DIRECTV reps told me I need to call DIRECTV stream. I am not a DIRECTV Stream member, so it does no good.
One rep stated that certain networks block Streaming so although you can watch it on your genie, you cannot stream it on other devices.
they shouldn't advertise this if that's the case. Over 90% of the shows I record are blocked from streaming.
Seems like they've been passing the buck for quite a while.
Defend them all you want, but I am not buying into it.

All I want is what I had 1 year ago -- the ability to watch a show recorded on my dvr IN MY OWN HOME, ON MY IN HOUSE NETWORK, but on an ipad. How tough is this?

Juniper, my dear friend, I rejoined DTV 2 weeks ago. I was a 10 yr customer and a relocation 1 yr ago put me in a spot to be forced to local cable. I am glad to be back but was not told an important function was downgraded. So that is where I am. If you want to be the person in charge of shaming customers who are paying in good faith, you have my vote.

Juniper - The complete lack of communication (and outright gaslighting) by DirecTv regarding a feature THAT AT ONE POINT WORKED FLAWLESSLY that was gutted and replaced by their streaming client THAT DID NOT WORK. I'm sick of this run-around I and many other satellite subscribers have received these past 2 years. From what I understand this feature will not work with all of the models. So it really isn't fixed unless you have the right Equpment

Well this would go a ways to keeping me in the DirecTV fold, both because I've long wanted that functionality back, but also because I'd probably return my HR24 and Mini-Client and save $14/month

Sure, if the added digital dvr functionality doesn't make it onto the Roku app for DirecTV... then that would be a different story to me, no doubt.
