Directv satellite subscriber - local channels not switching when using Directv app on Roku when traveling

I am a Directv satellite customer, but we switch our time between 2 different locations. Last year, when we went south for the winter, we used our Roku to watch TV with Directv app. A few days after we had arrived, the local channels switched to the stations for our new location. When we got to our main home, after we watched with the app (not the satellite DVR), the locals took a few days, but then they switched back to the region we were in.

This year, same situation. Going south for the winter to a different location - watching on the Roku. But this time, the local channels ARE NOT switching to the location we are in.

I have read all of the forums and articles that say that Rokus don't have location services, so it is based on our CC billing zip code. Many of these posts are several years old.

But my question is, why did the local channels switch last year, and not this year? (And by last year, I mean about 9 months ago) Has something changed? 

I would really like to watch local news and weather where we are located, not something 2000 miles away with totally different weather.
