DirecTV satellite

I'm thinking about getting DirecTV satellite. I have a few questions.

1. Does one receiver still control 3 TVs as it says?

2. It says I can get 330+ channels. What's the exact maximum amount of channels I can get?

3. Is there a way I can build my own package and chose any channel accept the premiums?

The HS17 Genie2 can have 7 TVs but only 2 can stream 4K at a time.

No, you can't pick your channels.  Premier is the highest package with 340+ channels

To clarify, each TV needs its own DirecTV box. That could be a DVR like the HR54 with a couple of Genie Mini Client boxes for the other 2 TVs. Or it could be an HS17 Genie Server with Mini Clients on each of the 3 TVs.

Channels depends on your package. Details at www.directv.com

1. Receivers don't "control" multiple TVs. The Genie-2 (HS17) is a Headless Server tower. It feeds the service to each TV client, which each take a tuner and share recording space. It does not allow any dedicated receivers.

The regular Genie is a receiver itself on a TV and can feed clients on the other TVs. Though it does allow other receivers along with or instead of clients.

With either option, each box controls its own TV. Just centralizes where the tuners come from and a hard drive to share.

2. There is no exact maximum accross the board. Locals and RSNs are based on where you live. This is why packages include the + to allow for that difference. And there are other add-on options (seasonal sport subscriptions, Movies Extra Pack, PPVs, Adult programing, DogTV, International).

The Premier package is the highest one DirecTV currently offers. It includes all the channels in the base packages, as well as the premium packs of HBO, Starz/Encore, Showtime, Cinemax, and the Sports Pack.

2. There is no build your own. The channels are packaged to TV providers which are then packaged to us. It is not an al-a-carte industry. You choose the package that you feel fits you best.

If you don't want all the premium channels, then don't get Premier. All packages below it the packs are optional. Though it is standard for the intro offer to include the premium channels free for the 1st 3 months. It is up to you to call before the 3 months ends to remove any premium pack you don't wish to keep as they roll to cost on month 4.

Hope that helps.

We'd love to have you in our family, @techgeek15

We'll be happy to clarify all your doubts:

1. It is necessary to have a receiver installed per TV.
2. With the PREMIER package you can have up to 340 channels plus around 80 music ones.
3. DIRECTV has packages with channels included by default. However, you can add the PREMIUM channels like HBO MAX, SHOWTIME, STARZ, and Cinemax.

Check here for information about the packages we have available.

Please let us know if you have any other questions, we'll be here for you.
