Directv Stream App

When my daughter downloads app on ROKU tv, it only gives her option to pay, and not my satellite service. I’ve been able to get app to work on other ROKU tvs, just not hers.

Yes. I have satellite service. I was able to download the app, login with my directv password on two ROKU tvs, but my daughter tv at school, will only bring her to the pay options, and not give her the guide and and channels that my tvs do.

I don't have satellite service but if it's like other cable services, the app on streaming devices is only available at home where the app can detect your receiver. Away from home, the service should be available only on mobile devices like a PC, cell phone, or tablet. I am assuming the reason your daughter is seeing the paid message is that the service thinks that she is using the internet streaming service DirecTV Stream, which is a separate paid subscription. DirecTV has now combined both the satellite "DirecTV" and internet streaming "DirecTV Stream" services into one app. The use of the satellite service on streaming devices like Roku and Fire Sticks is a recently new feature for the satellite service per their website. In the past, the satellite service was not even available on streaming devices.

@Mikekarla1999

Previously the app for DirecTV (satellite) was not available on any option to stream to a TV. This was to prevent account sharing and to prevent people from avoiding paying for the authorized TV.

Now the DirecTV and DIRECTV STREAM apps have been combined into one. There are some growing pains. However, it appears as if Roku TV will only work if you have DIRECTV STREAM, not DirecTV.

DTV has sent a DTV receiver message yesterday stating that the DTV app is now available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV also they are offering Discovery + subscriptions.

But is the service available on streaming services outside of your home when traveling? I know mobile devices are but streaming devices like Roku or Fire Sticks?

To be clear. I’m a satellite customer, have 3 wired tvs. I have 2 ROKU tvs that I successfully downloaded app, and can watch channels as if they were “wired”. My sons room ROKU tv, only brings up the streaming paid options, and my daughter ROKU tv does the same at college when they use my account login. It’s just odd, I could understand my daughter ROKU not working, but my son is on same network. Hopefully just a bug with the app 🤷‍♂️. There is only one app now, so I’d assume if it works on some it would work for all. Thanks everyone for giving advice 👍. I’ll keep you all posted if it works.

AFAIK you still can't stream from the Genie when outside of your home network.

Until now there was no DTV satellite app for Roku only the DTV steaming app that is a separate service.

Makes sense. That's how most cable providers do it. That's the issue the OP has with his daughter.

The odd thing is that my sons tv in his room, not wired, can’t stream from app either. When you click on app, select screenshots, It doesn’t show the screenshots, only goes to the paid streaming options, oh well, Maybe it’s the tv?

  • As stated before until yesterday there was no app for DTV satellite service that can be downloaded to any streaming device like smart TVs including Roku TV.  The only app available was for DTV streaming.
