Do we need a satellite dish for Direct TV?

My husband thinks that Direct TV comes though the Pace 5268AC box we were given in 2014 when we signed up for internet service and ATT U-Verse.  I say it comes through the satellite dish.  Who is correct?

We are former ATT U-verse customers who were having issues and ATT offered a good deal on Direct TV.  The previous homeowner had a Direct TV dish mounted on front the house.  I don't know how old it is but it's pre-2014.  When Direct TV was installed the old dish was not replaced which leads my husband to believe it is defunct.

We are planning some remodeling.  It has always bugged me that the dish was mounted on the front of the house.  It's a rusty eyesore ( we live a block from the ocean). If we don't need it, I will have the contractor remove it.  If we do need it,  I would have it relocated.  Since it is old and rusty, if we do need it, will ATT provide a new dish?  Would we have to pay for it?

You are both right,  DirecTv Now is a separate streaming service provided by AT&T so no dish is needed.

DirectTv is a satellite service that needs a dish.

DTV never removes dishes as you own it so you can remove the old dish if you want provide it is not in use but you do need a SWM dish to continue to use DTV sat service as DTV is shutting down the MPEG2 SD channels and you need HD receivers, so what are the model numbers of you receivers?

If you had Directv installed and you did not get a new satellite dish, then that old dish is being used. DirectTV is satellite service and is delivered via a satellite dish. As noted above, Directv Now is a separate streaming service but there is nothing to install. If you got receivers installed, you have Directv satellite service.

The HR54 is a SWM only receiver so you do have a SWM dish. Can you post a picture of the dish?

You have to subscribe to DirecTv Now and yes Roku should have the app for it.

We have an HR 54-700 receiver/DVR and on the second TV a C 51-500 Advanced Whole Home Client.  I'm guessing that Direct TV Now would go through our Roku which we use for Netflix and Amazon Prime and would not offer recording?
