Dversity and me
I have been lurking on the forum for a while as I was attempting to use ViiV for Media Share. Have had no problems with DoD except that I am forced to use Hughes Satellite for internet - my download capability gets throttled if I fail to limit my downloads to the hours of 3-6 AM.
I am using an older LinkSys switch and finally decided that was why I couldn't get MS to work. Many frustrating hours trying everything I could thing of. I should mention I am using an eight year old tower with Linux as my network's main file server. (BTW that server has been running for those eight years without one hiccup - but I am now planning to replace it!).
In desperation and since everything I read said to use a router, I went to Circuit City and bought one. (30 day return warranty). More frustration, still couldn't get MS to work. Finally decided to download and install TVersity on a ViiV/XP computer. Removed and returned the router, reinstalled my switch, and everything works! I haven't even done anything with WM11.
The only problem I have had is TVersity has been downloading YouTube and other files in the background thereby choking my internet access. So I am not running DVersity (really, it is not running in the foreground or background), no more downloading, but full access to audio, pictures and video files from my Linux file server and other computers on my switch based network!
I apologize for the length of this post, but I wanted to demonstrate
success based on the invaluable info I have received from this Forum.
Thanks guys, and maybe some of what I have mentioned here will help someone else.
