Error 22 solved with alternate DNS server
Should have tried this sooner, but then I have yet to find an explicit description of what error 22 refers to. Something in one of the numerous threads made suggestion it refers to a DNS problem. I had been using the IP address of "Preferred DNS server", so I changed to IP address of "Alternate DNS server" and that did the trick, at least for the time being. My guess is the second DNS server is responding faster than the first DNS server and that timing is the problem. If true, rather ironic given how long takes to download HD content over a 3Mb/s DSL connection.
If you don't have access to a second DNS server, OpenDNS or Google Public DNS might work, but I can't vouch for either. OpenDNS for free requires registration; Google doesn't: IPs 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 per http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
