Fast forward

Why has DirecTv moved to prevent fast forwarding through commercials?

It seems a particularly nasty thing to do to your customers, especially at a time when you’re loosing so much business!

Are you referring to fast-forwarding through DVR or LIVE TV?

I’m referring to recorded TV series

How can that be?  Fast forwarding is a Directv function.

There may have been an issue with your original recording, try recording a few minutes of live TV and see if you can fast-forward through the playback; if this works, then you should reset the receiver using the red button on the receiver (main Genie if you have the Genie/mini system). Please let us know if this works for you. (this method was found by searching for "directv fast forward problems" on bing.com)

because the networks disable  or force directv to disable those functions on their on demand/recorded content

It’s a recent change the forces the paying viewer to watch unwanted commercials.
That’s just wrong.... and enfuriating!  Why am I paying so much to be inconvenienced?

Have you tried my suggestion yet? No need to get upset if it's just a technical issue.

Just to be clear: On-Demand fast-forwarding abilities are dictated by the owner of that content (the network not the broadcaster), DVR fast-forwarding is not; with that said, if you are having issues with DVR fast-forwarding please try to record a few minutes of LIVE TV and see if you can fast-forward through that recording - if you can, then reset your receiver and see if that works.

I apologize for being overly vocal.  I know it’s not your fault and that you’re trying to help.  The issue is still upsetting. I shouldn’t be forced to watch commercials.

It’s not all recorded programming, rather particular series such as NCIS and particular network’s such as CBS.

Is there a work around?

I tried 30SKIP, but it seems to have been disabled.

@Ehreekuh  is correct, however heres where my scenario is relevant

i record the series BULL, say  i record season 1 episode 1-3 episode 1 and 3 recorded from the channel whereas episode 2 pulled and recorded from the on demand channel

i can fast forward and rewind 1 and 3 but not 2, you can tell if its pulled from on demand as it was always loads saying preparing for play back with a blue status bar

It’s not an error with the recording.  I get a pop up message “Fast forwarding of commercials not allowed” after the commercials, I can fast forward thru the show.

@Jpkochan  thank you for understanding, I know it's frustrating when you are stuck watching commercials (I DVR everything so I only watch the commercials that I want to see haha); but @Constructive is also correct if you select On-Demand "recording" instead of DVR Recording then the fast-forwarding is disabled because it's loading from On-Demand instead of your recorded version. I hope this makes sense :)

yep that 100% sounds like it pulled a recording from an on demand

when watching the show hit the info button im willing to bet your nbc shows were recorded from 1002 and not the nbc station.
